Crazy Strato Stats

PostSat Jan 05, 2013 2:08 pm

I have seen some weird things in my last few leagues. I figured I would share some, ask for opinions on these events, maybe get some additional items:

I recently won a semis in which all 7 games were won by the visiting teams in extreme BPs

One guy in a league started off 3-28. Give him credit, he was able to laugh about, and still is.

I am in 3rd with a 60-39 record.

Swept 2 times this month in playoffs, NEVER happened 1 time 4 years at Sporting News.

Food for thought, I am guessing there have been some changes in way the games are run. I wonder if they are intentional changes, or unintended consequence? Good, Bad, Different?

Give me you impressions.

I would think not being swept in 4 years at TSN was the more unusual stat. It just
takes 4 games and small sample size can bite you. Its unusual to see it twice
in a month, but not that unusual. For sanity sake, I have taken the position that
playoff strat is BONUS strat, don't over react to individual upsets. The statement
is made about regular baseball, too. The playoffs are a lottery, not wholey, but in
part. I think the long term stat is that the "underdog" (lesser record) wins 30% of
the time in playoff series (a thread from the TSN days). To me that doesn't seem
unusual at all. On the other hand, its perfectly normal to react to getting upset in
a negative way.

The bigger picture,... well there has never been any credible numerical auditing of
the results. There has been some ad hoc stuff done by users, and we all have opinions.
I would lean toward being more suspect of the stats now than then. But I will say the
roll breakdown on the "Misc tab" of the teams page is one of my favorite, if not my
most favorite, new addtion to the strat stats. It gives you a general impression of
you overall luck. You can't see it in playoffs, you don't really get a history with it. But
its more than we had at TSN.
