i thought SOM short-changed him a bit.

HR count is 1.3 and only 2 BP chances. Could they have screwed up the L/R ratings?

It's possible, mistakes do happen, When they do Strat will post a message on their website. However I don't think you are reading the right player or column

Hamilton hr chances are 5 natural and 7 BP vs LHP and 8.8 natural and 8 BP vs RHP. His home park ball park is a homeer haven, with LH hitter like Hamiton hitting it out 1-15. I'd say they got things right.

You have to remember the cards are desingned as a simulation first. In other words, if you use the cards and replay Texas' season, Hamiltopn should hit the same number of home runs in the sim as he did in real life, give or take a home run or two. So his cards is designed with his ballpark in mind, meaning that 81 games using his card will be in Texas home park with that huge Ball Park number.

I was wrong. should of double checked.

Sorry I was typing my post when you notice your mistake.

That said my point on fredpali's take still stands. 8.8 plus 8 ballpark for hamilton playing in that bambox in Texas seems about right to me.

Okay. Well, at least I still have Giancarlo and his 11.5/8 and 10.5/8 HR counts. What are the chances Stanton is a less than 3 injury?

I wasn't sure about that before but it does appear you're right. To further back up what you're saying Eric Chaves had something like 16 HRs in 240 ABs vs RHPs and his HR counts are only 5.6/6. Lower than Perdro Alvarez even though Alvarez had a lower ratio of HRs to ABs vs RHPs. But Alvarez played in a pitchers park .

Yep you gotta take the parsk into consideration.

The same will hold true for pitchers cards vis-avis the defense behind them. Pitchers that have 1's and 2's at most of the positions in the field will have their carsd slightly worse than you might expect.

http://www.diamonddope.com/diy.cfm

It breaks down the chances and does the counts for the cards. In a nutshell a Strat card has 108 total chances on each side. 108 on the left and 108 on the right. So it gives the total chances, out of 108, for hits, OB etc. It also gives total base count, gbA count ( important for knowing who hits into double plays and who doesn't, you don't want a guy with a 25+ gbA count hitting in your number 2 hole) and a whole host of other information.
For the pitchers same thing, ther are 108 total chances on the pitchers card, it tells you how many of those are hit, walks, strikeouts, etc. It will also tell you which pitchers give up extra base hits.

When I started playing this game, I actually used to do the counts ( for On Base) manualy and write them in pencil on the cards. It helps with making batting orders, tells you who is effectiove against LH or RH pitchers.

Frankly I don't know how anyone who plays this game regularly doesn't use the book and/or download.

Bill, that makes me feel better. I have 29 championships, an overall record over .500 and play almost entirely against veterans in keeper leagues, theme leagues, and ongoing buddy leagues. While you guys were going with science all these years, I went off of a general gut feeling by looking at the players final cards. Perhaps I'll go forward incorporating a little of both. ;)

"For instance I will set the On Base count column to chge to red font for everyone over a 35 on base count, makes it reall easy to find viable leadoff hitters"

For us chiropractors that have no idea of what the hell we're doing in Excel...

How do you do this?

And FTR, I love the download, but the ratings book makes GREAT bathroom reading material.

Vis,

I'll see if I can step you through it.

First select the colum you want to highlight, I use OBP so I'll do that. Obviously you have to do it twice, once for each side.

Anyway, we'll do OB vs RHP, so select that colum by the letter at the top of the column, I believe it's column P.

Next, depending on what version of EXCEL you are running ( and I hope you are runnning office 2007) on the home tab there is a menu on the top of the sprwead sheet for conditional formating, click it. It brings up a drop down, click New Rule on the drop down.

Next, On the next menu click under Select a rule type click the second line that reads:

Format Only Cells that contain

Now in the lower menu that reads Edit the Rule Description go to the second box, click the drop down arrow and select Great than or equal to:

Now click on the empty box and choose your value, we'll say 35.

Now click the format button, this calls up the Font format menu and allows you to change the font type, size, color, bold, underline, etc, basically anything you can do to the font. I usually selct Bold and change the color to red. Once you've made your changes Click okay on the bottom of the font editting box, which brings you back to the rule edit box.
Click ok on the bottom of that bo and your rule will now go into effect.

Please note, Text is valued greated than numbers for some weird reson, so the title of the column will change to. Once you've done it for the RH side you can easily copy and paste it to the LH side without setting up the whole thing step by step.

To copy from the RH side to the left, first select the colum with the rule you want to copy, then RIGHT click with your mouse and select COPY from the menu. Now select the column you want to copy the rule to then RIGHT click on that column. Select Paste SPECIAL and when the menu comes up, select Formats and then hit OK and you will paste the conditional formattin from one column to another.

If you screw it up you can hit the undo button and take things back to where you made the mistake.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming that an "X" under "Location" denotes an "extra" player in the card set. Is it probable that none of these players will be carded in the online version as well, or is that a different process? (Obviously, most of them wouldn't be carded in the online version anyway... I'm wondering about the borderline cases.)
