A 4 man farm system

PostFri Jan 18, 2013 3:23 pm

What if we added a 4 man farm system. 1 SP, 1 RP, 1 OF, 1IF

You start with your 25 man roster ( or your desired roster size ), then 4 extras.

Should this be considered by SOM? And would the managers ( you ) want to see this type of optional feature?

Would they count against the cap?

I'd like it, as long as nothing allowed you to make a farm to active move that went over the cap. It would be a realistic tactic against 15 game injuries.

Some limit should be in place so the farm team wouldn't be moved 4 at a time to the active roster every series all year long.
This avoids a platoon situation involving the farm, or rotating a new SP in every series.

Also, the farm guys shouldn't be part if the draft, maybe added 24-48 hours after waivers/frenzy, or 24 hours before season starts.

i would be for it.

that being said, i do not think som would even consider it for a second regardless of the support that it might get. it would be to difficult to code and to control, and would easily be abused by the managers.

I would like it. But agree it would be difficult to code and prevent abuses. I have suggested this before during discussions on how the game might be improved. There would have to be some form of cost against the cap for the quality of players you kept down on the farm. And probably would need a transaction fee for calling someone up. Though setting it up where you could only call up a farmhand if someone were on the DL would help prevent abuse. And if you sent someone down otherwise that player would have to be optioned and go through a waiver process where other owners could claim him away.

I could see it as a 10 million side cap ( everyone gets 10M and it's not against the cap of the league ) in the farm. 4 players , 1 SP , 1 RP, 1 IF, 1 OF. After choosing your farm players , no other players can be placed in the farm system from the FA. Can't bring them up until after the 1st week and only players from the 25 man roster can replace a farm hand. Choosing the farm after waivers also. Having to still maintain the league cap also. So if you pad your farm system with high priced players , you still have to live within the league cap.

Any other suggestions ?

I think this is a good start.

Farm hand called up has to play....25 games before being sent back? Cuts out the over use.

This is a real minefield with lots of potential for unintended consequences.

For example, you'd have to adjust all the pricing for oft-injured players because they'd be worth more in this scenario. Then you have to figure out the impact onthe cap and how often and when you can make moves.

While I'd love to have one, I don't know if it would work cleanly.
