Stan Musial's explanation for why he did not walk more was that he was more valuable to his team hitting the ball
than drawing walks.That makes sense.
An anecdote I read somewhere I thought was funny. It went something like this:
Fan: If you were playing today, Stan, against modern pitchers what do you think you
would hit?
Aged Stan: Oh, about .280
Fan: That sounds awfully low. Are you sure of that?
Stan: Well, you got to remember, I am 80 years old now.
Well, my wife laughed when i told her.
