Stan was "The Man" - will never be another like him!

One of the great all-time hitters. He was the 'Ted Williams' of the National League (without the walks). Stan never used the press for his advantage or bad-mouthed anyone. He made his career the ol' fashioned way, by swinging the bat. Not enough good can be said about him.

Stan was a a good man, a kind man, and a generous man. He also happened to be one of the great baseball players of the game. His life was well lived.

I hijacked dad's account this morning to check our team, but couldn't help but post regarding Mr. Musial's death. He was my favorite player--despite the fact I was never able to see him play (I was born in '83). Just the few videos of that swing and an episode of "Home Run Derby" was all I needed to solidify him as my favorite; heck I even modeled my batting stance after him (and despite the strong "encouragement from my college coaches, I reverted back to it to end a slump). His influence in Cardinal Nation cannot be overstated. Just an amazing human being.

RIP to a true American Icon.

Stan Musial's explanation for why he did not walk more was that he was more valuable to his team hitting the ball
than drawing walks.That makes sense.

An anecdote I read somewhere I thought was funny. It went something like this:
Fan: If you were playing today, Stan, against modern pitchers what do you think you
would hit?
Aged Stan: Oh, about .280
Fan: That sounds awfully low. Are you sure of that?
Stan: Well, you got to remember, I am 80 years old now.
Well, my wife laughed when i told her.
