Help with Bullpen Settings

PostWed Jan 23, 2013 11:37 am

I have a number of relief pitcher specialists who have either large balances to the right or left. I'm trying to create the settings so that my pitchers only face the hitters that they're stronger against. I currently use the quick hook and avoid righty/lefty settings to try to maximize this. However, I'm about half way through the season and notice that most of my relievers have faced an equal number of righties and lefties. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I noticed other players in my league have very good simulated splits but I can't seem to get this setting right. Thanks for any help.

Would need to see you team. Sounds like you have a thin bullpen. Also your starters should have slow hooks

My starters are Shields, Garza, Wolf and Colby Lewis. My bullpen is Bastardo, Clippard, Juan Cruz, Coffey, Mike Gonzalez and Rodrigo Lopez. I have Shields and Garza set to slow hook but Wold and Lewis set to quick hook. Bastardo and Clippard are set to slow hook and the rest of the relievers are set to quick hook (and avoid lefties/righties).

ok, I hope someone can second this, but your bullpen is thin. Cruz,Coffey,Gonzalez & Bastardo are all R1 (If Bastardo is named closer he is C4) Clipppard is a R2. Lopez a R3, but you have a quick hook. Not enough innings to go around so your specialists are carrying the burden.

I agree you maybe a little thin but this bullpen reminds me a lot of the pens I have used in '12 I love Clippard and I usually set him to F0 and not bother with slow hook you should probably do the same with Bastardo I generally shoot for Cishek in this role. The rest of your pen should be set to quick hook and only against strength. The top two should then pitch around 100 to 135 innings each but I vary rarely put a starter to quick hook that may force your lower level relief pitchers to go more than an inning. Hope this is some help to you just my 2cents

I agree. The biggest problem is probably Lopez. Total waste of a R3. In the 2011 set someone like Mike Leake would be good in that role.
