Hey, I hear you Nev.

All I can say is I am not angry at Garcia or Bernie.**

AND (more importantly):

I am 100% in agreement that not having an easily accessible and accurate description of the
rules is really, really bad.

** And if I was, it would be like not liking your MLB team because the ticket taker or the Beer Vendor
were creepy. Uncomfortable... but the real issue is the game itself.

Transparancy is HUGE!
I have already been on record saying my favorite feature enhancement over the years was showing
the dice rolls.

http://forum.onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=631311&p=5399277&hilit=dice+rolls&sid=13f29f6507eb269fc3d886afca102709&sid=8f9531c08264967b016bb853fb642279#p5399277

So anything which belittles this feature enhancement (like the rolls don't mean what we think
they mean), does make me upset.

Anyway, I hope that Nev and Salt (and others) do not think my lack of desire to be emotionally
engaged in the SOM personalities means I have much more significant agreement in the area
of rules transparency.

This maybe difficult to believe but Im trying to hold my tongue (fingers)-
B/C I know how acerbic my rhetoric can be and likely will hurt some feelings if it was read.

I appologize if you believe I meant you should be silent about your emotions. Its not good
to hold your feelings in, it will come back to haunt you.

I am just saying, despite myself not being emotionally engaged in Bernie or Garcia (in
fact, I have a positive view of Bernie). I just don't think its relevant. But I think the
view towards them shouldn't cloud the big picture. Which I believe to be (based on the
common issues in this thread):

1. We should all play by the same set of rules
2. The rules should be easy to access and easy to see, even by the first time player
3. Access to the rules should never be a privelidge obtained because of the amount
of product you purchase (i.e., more teams or more CD-Roms)

A number of us have had separate rants on this thread. My rant was directed towards
the excuses for having hidden rules. But IMHO the different rants actually support the contention
this is important to a lot of us with different views on other issues.

The 'sole' reason it would be relevant is b/c the person who has been running the game is the sole person empowered to make the changes and correct what we are seeing- and further chooses what/who he responds or doesnt respond to from the community.

I could care less if it was Bernard, Halnard, Garcianard, whatever- just a responsive voice who takes responsibility.

( I have to hold back on the personal stuff I believe is going on here for the reasons I stated above)

Gents,

I am a HUGE proponent of a level playing field. I had a self enforced sabbatical a few years back because TSN was having domain issues and only some managers could access the site, while pockets of the country couldn't, anyone remember that one??? I had playoff teams in play and couldn't make any team setting changes, and I had teams in waivers and couldn't pick up any free agents during the waiver draft, but TSN let things plod along. Basically flushed away the credits for the teams that I missed the waiver draft for.

I also had a nice little temper tantrum a while back because of the auto-draft and the bug that allowed players to draft a team significantly over the cap and have no way of holding the league until the team was fixed.

So I share your sentiments about transparency, level playing field and a lot of the other points in this thread, particularly that the rules should be clearly posted on a link from the main site for easy access and clarification. I do that for all of the managers in my PBEM leagues and it keeps everyone on the same page.

I don't necessarily agree about the impact of this one though. I play a lot of CDROM, and the Max rules have very limited interaction with results. I don't think that any of us would be drafting a team differently or changing manager settings because of the Max rules in play.

Just my 2 cents.

Does any one beside me find it ironic that we invest all this emotional energy and money in this product and get completely stonewalled at every turn? And we keep coming back for more?!

Ive actually thought about that on more than one occasion just this week alone- I almost quit entirely a few days ago because I was gettin mad- but I took a breath of air 'for now'.

I have a difficult time with unprincipled behavior- I dont believe in Machiavellianism- and it bugs me when I see it in business. But thats the way of the world sometimes.

I hope you don't mind me twisting your words back on you... but we are not coming back for more.
We are coming back for less.

There are less of us than before. And when were we (you and I) in the same league together? We used
to be the same leagues all the time (and the same division all the time). I used to cheris the big time
compeition. About half the managers in my leagues I don't recognize and many of them are stumbling over
the basics of strat, so its really not as competitive as it used to be. But its hard to find the leagues with
the better managers because the manager ratings are gone.

They did make it cheaper. So we invest less in it for the same number of teams. I post less often and
see less posts overall. So we do invest less emotionally than before. But isn't really more of the same.
Its less of the same.

I dont give a crap that we have em or dont have- ITS BEING UP FRONT ABOUT HAVING THEM and US KNOWING THEY ARE THERE OR NOT!

I agree. I can play by any rules as long as I know what they are.

I have previously mentioned how I thought the gb(A)+ mattered and didn't. And apparently the * and ** mean nothing. At one time I had a database where I had captured every feature on a card and had assigned values to them all and used that to compare prices of what i computed they should be verses what they were to find bargains. Then I found out I was tracking several features and assigning value when there was none. A lot of wasted time there.

Does any one beside me find it ironic that we invest all this emotional energy and money in this product and get completely stonewalled at every turn? And we keep coming back for more?!

A large part of why I have not bought a credit since the transition. I keep playing because I had so many credits brought over from TSN. I had bought a bunch the last time they had a half off sale. But I have a list of things that I consider musts for fixing. And when I run out of credits if things have not been made "right" as promised then that will be the end.

It almost seems like a lot of us that were playing at TSN are "Legacy Players" and that strat has been trying to
turn over its customer base so that the remaining Legacy Players are less significant and the newer players are
easier to please.

Having new managers is a good thing. But losing the experienced ones is sad. And its kind of deflating to have to
tell another manager the reason you are not interested in their trade offer is that you are in a righty park and
they are offering a package of lefty hitters. I am sure they will become experienced, they seem to enjoy playing,
but there are a lot of newer managers that are missing things that aren't all that subtle.
