Yes but how do we know if they are new managers? Lots of name changes, i.e. Last Druid and 216 Stitches (I even forget who that is ?!) and no manager ratings to cross reference to even know if someone is new. And for the past few months the only response the company gives to questions, requests etc. is to remove 'inconvenient' threads from this forum (as this one is almost certain to be) despite numerous promises to the contrary. And I really feel this is deliberate by SOM. How does Garcia's blog never even reference ATG? I don't recall a bunch of guys wanting manager ratings from the 2004 season!

Love the game but do I want to reinforce this company's behavior toward customers in general and ATG in particular? I think not.

It is nice to know I am not the only one who finds the lack of manager ratings confusing.
New Last Druid = Old Petro
New 216 Stitches = Old River Field View

I know this isn't much of a help, but the news names have replaced the old names in all of the old
leagues. As if names like Petrosian and River Field View never existed.

I kind of assumed the manager ratings would be up and running, otherwise I would have stuck with
the old name. It can't be that difficult to post the manager ratings, I would assume at this point that it
is strats intention that manager ratings will never again be posted.

Even without the manager ratings, there are a lot of "hints" that give away new users. Such as surprise
about simple things, valuation of players in trades, etc. But by then you are already in the league.

Slightly off topic here but...

A veteran manager brought it to my attention that on the right side of your reply box, under all the emoticons...

[img] is off.

[img] use to be on.

I don't think we can post pictures anymore. Not a huge thing, but all part of the editing process by Strat.

Max Rules--What About The Under Performing Players

PostWed Jan 30, 2013 11:04 am

I have played about 30 seasons over all four games (70s, 80s, 90s & ATG) and in everyone of them I have more players under perform the stats on the card they were using. I dont like the fact the Max Rule is used to shut down a card that is over performing what is expected of it and the reason they say it is used. We are told it is turned on for better statistical accuracy so the real life stats match up with the result we get when playing. If that is the case what about all those under performing performances we see? For example it is 3/4 of the way through the season and a player you would expect to hit 40 home runs has only hit 20 so far, shouldn't the game engine start changing results so he hits those other 20 homers over the last 40 games?

The past few years, before the cards come out, I'll head over to ESPN.com and check the numbers on players.

You can filter the stats to see who are some of the best hitters with 2 outs and RISP. (Runners in scoring position)

Some guys were just $ and others were terrible.

So when the cards came out, I'd go back and expect to see these $ "clutch" hitters being + clutch. I'd say almost 100% of the time, they were - clutch, usually bad - clutch.

Guys that couldn't hit in clutch situations in real life were usually + clutch.

I couldn't understand, so I called them. (Stratomatic, about 2 years ago). Their reply was if they left guys + clutch that were + clutch in real life, the #'s would be skewed, so they change them.

This has nothing to do with changing the rules with the CD-Rom / Online game, but just doesn't make any sense to me...

I remember reading, I believe in an interview, that clutch does not really mean the hitter is good at getting a hit with 2 outs and runners in scoring position. It means they have a lot of RBIs, and clutch is a RBI adjuster. If a hitter has a lot of RBIs, then the hitter will most likely be a positive clutch since they can't replicate RBIs very well without it. If a hitter doesn't have a lot of RBIs, then he will either be neutral or a negative clutch. If I can find the article, I will post a link.

I found one reference on SOM's own site.

http://www.strat-o-matic.com/community/ ... march-2012

Look down to the second section entitled "CLUTCH HITTING WITH A STRAT SOPHOMORE". It has the answer.

Maybe I'm reading into this too much but there are LOTS of hitters with LOTS of RBI's that are - clutch.
And visa versa.

http://somonline.wikia.com/wiki/Clutch_Hitting

If you're reading the above article, then you would think guys that hit well with RISP and 2 out WOULD be + clutch.

So Strat... is it an RBI adjuster or does it reflect, like YOUR Wiki page, a clutch situation?

Hal himself responded in this interview. If you look most of the way down the page, you will see the question about Clutch and his response. I have clipped it so it can be read without digging for it.

http://www.somworld.com/2003/sample1.htm

GA - Can you explain what is the Clutch Formula?

HR - Well, I can't get into the exact formula, but I can tell you its more than the Runners In Scoring Position Average is. If there was enough ABs produced with 2 outs and runners in scoring position (RISP), batters hit between 12 and 20 points below their regular average. There is pressure on the batter to produce in those situations. But enough ABs can't be generated. We look at average and RBIs. They are weighted differently, but anything under 100 ABs we consider to be very little. Its more than a RBI adjustment. I really think that the clutch is an excellent formula.

The legendary Mario Mendoza is a "clutch hitter" according to his .198 BA ATG VII card.
