Has anybody thought about or tried the shuffle feature?

I'm not a fan of the shuffle feature for this tourny and no I have not tried it.

I agree with LMB. I think Rich was just asking generally. I have not tried the shuffle (or the Hustle) thus far.

Some quick numbers...

I have sorted the players by the below categories as proposed by AllStarInc.

Pre-1920
1920-1939
1940-1959
1960-1969 (current)
1970-1979
1980-1989
1990-1999

I have not bothered to subtract players with multiple cards. I assume the ratio would be similar for each grouping of years. We all have a feel for the player size in our current 60s draft so look at those numbers for comparisions. Below are the total number of cards (not players) for each year grouping:

Pre 1920 - 351 hitters & 250 pitchers
1920-1939 - 409 hitters & 243 pitchers
1940-1959 - 459 hitters & 329 pitchers
1960-1969 - 296 hitters & 212 pitchers
1970-1979 - 350 hitters & 255 pitchers
1980-1989 - 417 hitters & 311 pitchers
1990-current - 183 hitters & 102 pitchers
NEL - 72 hitters & 38 pitchers

I think we need to tweak the year groupings. The early categories have too many players and we have not even added the NEL players to any group. The 1990-current does not have enough players.

I will be happy to send the spreadsheet that I broke down into these categories to anyone who wants to play with it and come up with player groupings that are not too much larger than the 60s draft which was pretty much right on as far as having virtually everyone drafted and used. These other groupings would leave some very viable players not used. Thoughts?

We could skip the 90-current and add another early year grouping possibly.

Since I've got enough remaining funds to do so, I'm going to upgrade Denny McLain from his '69 season to his '68 season. ;)

I think it was Bud Selig who gave the following definition of a Sleeper Player.

"An unexpected player whose overall contribution to his team's success
far exceeds his salary and normal expectations. A true over achiever."

With the exception of a few guys from the old 1969 league, I have never used any of these players before. But after looking over their cards and their salaries, the following are a few players who I think might make the Sleeper List.

Rico Petrocelli, Maury Wills, Tony Conigliaro, Jim Ray Hart, Norm Sieburn, Tommy Harper, Alex Johnson, Randy Hundley, Dean Chance, Christ Short, Ron Perranoski, and Hal Reniff.

Re:Bombers post...not sure what the answer would be except that we're still using a salary cap so regardless of how many players are available, you can still only spend so much money.

Re RJ's post...I agree...wasn't Petro the top choice in our draft? LOL
