RP Salary - Your Thoughts?

Do you think the current salaries are correct for RP? Or do you think the elite RP should be valued similar to the elite SP?

IP potentials for RP 1-4 are 108, 216, 324, 436 IP per year. In my opinion, all RP need to be cut down to RP1.

Cutting all relievers to R1 is bad idea. Simple truth is many relievers are capable of going more than 1 inning. And in fact to have a workable bullpen you have to have some middle relievers who can go multiple innings for those times when starter gets chased early.

Reliever pricing is difficult call. If you price them according to what their value should be as a relief pitcher they have it about right. But if the rules and game engine allow for top relievers to pitch 300-400 innings just like a top starter then their price should be the same. The real problem is you get caught in between. If you use Sutter as a pure closer which is what he was then 100 innings or so will be the limit and you should not have to pay 10 mil for that. Then again if he is not priced 10 mil you can maximize his value and save money for elsewhere by using him as a super reliever and getting the 300+ innings.

I think what is needed is not a repricing but an alteration of the game engine and rules that allow someone to pitch unlimited innings and excessive frequency and be able to rack up unrealistic 350 inning seasons. As long as the rules and engine allow it the strategy is sound and you have to use it to some extent no matter how you feel about the subject.

It is not rocket science. If a pitcher starts a game he cannot relieve for a certain number of games without entering fatigued. In similar fashion if a reliever comes in for 4 inning then he is tired for a couple games after that. Only when the game engine does something along those lines will the super reliever disappear. Until then there will always be a gap between what the card should be worth and what we do with it.

But Strat is never going to admit to the game having a basic flaw like that and make a change. So only thing to do is accept it and go with the flow.

I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't necessarily thinking about the super reliever, but I believe it embodies the idea here if they are priced appropriately or not.
