franky35 wrote:Paul, can you clarify. Who can we pick up as free agents during the season? I had assumed that we can only pick up players that we have rights to. Is that correct? For example, Bob Gibson, who retired after the 1975 season, can't be on any team - is that right?

Only players who were with your team in 1976 can play for your team. Players who split the season between two teams belong to the team for which they had the most plate appearances or innings pitched.

Additionally, there is no limit on how many players you can carry on your roster, other than the limits placed by the game engine itself.

Hope this helps!

Well, I even surprised myself with this one. Thought I was going another direction, then made a last-minute decision I thought would work for me best.
We shall see.

In this relatively quiet moment before the Twins are picked, I had a moment to look at the 76 Twins roster. I had forgotten about Lyman Bostock. What a player he was, a good fielding outfielder who finished 4th in AL batting in 76 and 2nd (behind Carew) in 77. He had really good numbers in his first 2 MLB seasons (75, 76) but still was making just $20,000 in 1977, before leaving as a free agent to make $450,000 with the Angels in 78. He was murdered in 1978 in a case of mistaken identity in Gary, Indiana. In his 4 year career he had a .311 batting avg with 30 triples. If SOM had a way to make a 70s card for a 4 season player, there is no one more deserving than Bostock.

Of course they are on my short list, Franky, and not just as a "homer" pick. Imagine Carew at 1B and Oliva roaming RF for the 3 time world champion A's! If I could only cobble together a pitching staff...

Yes, Bostock was a classic Calvin Griffith phenom that got away when the price tag went too far north.
