Re: Fidrych...never realized he only had a TOTAL of 29 wins in his career. He had 19 in that incredible rookie season and then as Paul said, injuries cut him down. Tragically died later in an accident on his farm when he was working on a truck at age of 54.

I loved that Fidrych clip. That was in the pre-ESPN days when the only games on TV in my area were Braves on TBS or Cubs on WGN except for the game of the week like that one was.

1976 Trivia Time

PostWed Feb 13, 2013 9:01 pm

This hitter's 19 intentional walks led all American Leaguers and tied Ted Simmons for the MLB lead in 1976. Hint: He is the property of Randy (LMBombers) Partin.

White Sox in Shorts!

PostThu Feb 14, 2013 10:19 am

Not much footage of the game, so this clip is a gem. The White Sox in shorts against the Orioles, 1976. Be sure to hang on long enough to catch the beer stacking contest between games.

Wow, a White Sock player lead the AL in intentional walks in 1976? Garr was a high BA hitter but why walk him because he could steal 2B so I'll guess Jorge Orta. Looking at the ChiSox 1976 stats he was one of the few in the lineup that hit well that season.

Believe it or not Randy, it was Jim Spencer. Jim! Spencer! I suppose the lineup around him was so full of singles hitters that they didn't want to take a chance on him poking one over the wall.
