Simmons cannot be selected in the LF round prior to the CF round being complete. He is eligible as a CF pick and these options must be exhausted prior to his potential selection in the LF round.

As far as the pitching goes, I understand and concur. We do not want to make this too much (more) complex, but we do need to modify the draft order.

Suggest we finish the present pitching Round 6 and redo the Round 8 and Round 10 to accommodate a bit more equality. I like the idea above.

Unless someone disagrees, this will be the plan moving forward.

Guys, I'm sorry but I have to bail on this draft. I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone. This type of draft is unwieldy at best, and in this one probably a couple of tweaks and a restart would work better toward equity than more patches or direction changes. In any case, there were others showing interest in the signups, so a replacement should be easy enough to find.

Sorry to be a pain, but I don't see how you can restrict Simmons on the one hand, and allow round 6 to be completed prior to rectifying the problem with the 3 P rounds. The only way to put this right is to undo the round 6 picks and run the P rounds fairly.

yeah, i know i am not running the league, but we need to set some rules that are fair to everyone and a little easier to interpret and then start the draft again. that's just my opinion.

My opinion, for what it is worth: I am ok with a re-do with all of the "issues" resolved in advance, or continuing along and "fixing" things as we go...whatever commish opts to do.

As for the pitching thing, I think we went astray when the decision was made to change one round from sp/rp and rponly to any pitchers. That gave the round 6 guys a huge advantage over the round 8 guys. Had it stayed as originally, we all would have theortetically had one of the top 12 starters and one of the top 12 relievers...and then moved on from there.

If we are going to keep round 8 in...I'd suggest make round 8 reverse of round 6 so that poor number 12 is getting 12 and 13 and the two current number ones get 19 and 20. Stated differently rounds 8 and 10 should/must take into account round 6 and the two people making preliminary picks in 8 and 10.

Also, if we were to re-do, why not just make it simple and make the guy eligible for the position which is his primary position on most expensive card. That eliminates all confusion. I would make one exception as that is to keep Ruth in rf so that he and Bonds are in different positions...sorta like giving him an asterisk in fantasy like the commish gave Maris an asterisk in real life...

My opinion is that we need a very clear set of rules to be iterated before going forward.

with Frank dropping out, it would be wise to get that taken care of now.

I would not object to a reboot with repeat random position AFTER rules foibles and clarity are ironed out.
(My thinking is that a thoughtful but admittedly slow round by round draft might lead to less strife)

an example of a rule set - (the specifics of position round order, cap, stadium, drop penalty could all vary)

140m, DH, 5/10/20, waivers (unique park draft)
12 rounds in order then autodraft the rest
Must pick player and name year.
player and year must match primary position during draft.
(could instead say player position is restricted to the primary position on the most expensive card for that player)
player year and position drafted can be swapped out after waivers
players can be traded or dropped after the autodraft
No trades until after autodraft is run

rounds will be in specific order (which could be-)
round1 any player
round 2 any SP (can't have reliever rating)
round 3 any pure reliever
round 4 RF
round 5 LF
round 6 CF
round 7 catcher
round 8 shortstop
round 9 2b
round 10 3b
round 11 1b
round 12 any RP (may be SP/RP)

then 13th round for stadiums (if you care to make it unique stadiums)

each round should be completed before the next round starts

rounds 1-12 will allow picks sequentially
each manager will have the first pick in one of the 12 rounds
the number assigned to each manager will be the number order of which they sign up
these are the sequences that the rounds will be randomized toward
1) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12
2) 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1
3) 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2
4) 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3
5) 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4
6) 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5
7) 7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6
8) 8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7
9) 9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
10) 10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
11) 11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
12) 12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11

the random number WILL give some managers better choices than others. That is the nature of being random. However, everyone would get at least one of their top 12 picks if the first round is "any player"



This is intended as a talking point. I also think we can continue with this started draft if all agree and the kinks get straitened.

I'd make last round any pitcher, seems unfair to restrict to sp/rp when we are probably more concerned with our number 2 starter.

Mixed feelings about "random" being first; yes it allows us to get one of our top 12 picks (but so does position by position), but if also potentially hoses someone if there is a run on a position(s) in the first 12...eg. I wouldn't be thrilled having the 1st ss pick if people took the top 5 ss's in random round...my number 1 pick just became a 6th. For that reason, I still like it at the end where it is in essence the dh pick.

I like Carr's adjustment to Doc's plan.

I might further suggest that the first round be for SPs only (no SP/RP) with second round being SP with the option of being SP/RP; I suggest this because if you get the last pick on the 1st SP round you'll at least have the 12th and 13th pick of SPs. Then make the RP only an even number (4th round, 6th round, et al) so that the guy with the top SP pick does not get the top RP selection also.
