Dale Murray???

Dale Murray? Who is this guy? I had never heard of him before. Yet, in a All-time great league I recently completed he won both the Cy Young and MVP awards. He pitched 335 innings, had 23 wins and 42 saves. WOW! He was better than Joe Dimaggio, Pedro Martinez, Ted Williams, and Greg Maddux. How can this be?

In Stratworld, OTL, Dale is considered to be a "Super-reliever." He -- and a few select other RPs -- allow a manager in lower budget caps to cobble together a cheap pitching rotation, set them on "Quick hook," or "6 innings max" and bring in Dale to "close" the game for the last half of it.

When it works (right ballpark, right salary cap, etc.) it can be magic.

8 wins, 33 saves. The team has 70 wins. He's got his hands in more than half of those. I got killed in the autodraft, as a result had the number one waivers pick. Initially, I intentionally avoided Murray or Sutter or any other super reliver with my draft strategy, and using Terrapin Park had planned a solid small ball strategy. Problem was, half the teams in the league did the same thing and they got the small ball players and I didn't. I re-did more than half my team after waivers, and it has worked IN LARGE PART DUE TO DALE MURRAY!

Problem is, of course, that he is no all time great. There aren't many players in this game that make such a difference here online that had such little real impact on terra firma. This Dale Murray season ranks up there with the great ones so far, but is by no means an extreme outlier. This card needs adjustments. At least Sutter pitched a lot of real innings...
