The sublime Pedro 2000 card!

PostTue Feb 26, 2013 6:57 pm

That Pedro Martinez 2000 card is really something else. It's gotta be the best pitching card in the set, star or no star, and I feel privileged to have been fortunate enough to watch him do his thing in real life in his prime for Boston. Gonna be hard to argue against him being in the top 5, top 3, maybe even top 1 pitcher of all time, especially considering that he did his work in the heart of the PED period...

My first go with it, and this won't be the last:

Sublime indeed. Does it in Fenway in the AL East from late 1997 to 2005. Highest ERA+ for a SP ever. Fitting I guess his cards so good.

Haven't used it in a while but its probably the coolest card ever. Maybe even most dominant.

I'm not sure his card is any better than the Maddux card but I have to agree that on the field that season might be the greatest ever with everything taken into account.

BTW- As a Yankee fan that was very hard for me to say!

Funny thing is, as a Sox fan, from what I saw, those Pettite cards should be better! :D

And in a 80MM 24 team league, through 129 games:

Martinez, Pedro (2000) R S7 17 6 0 0 223.0 130 46 43 47 275 18 -3 0 0 1WR 1.74 .79 3L 9.28M

with 9 shutouts including a perfecto. It's pretty wild.

HaHa!!!! He threw 21 innings in the 7 game series with a 1.29 ERA and a Whip below 0.8. Rumor is there is a bloody sock somewhere to add to the legend.

I also had the privilege of watching Pedro deal in Boston, and I can honestly say he was the most dominant pitcher I've ever seen in my short 50 year stint on this planet. Lots of pitchers are unhittable when they're 'on'. During that period Pedro was almost always 'on'.

Best memory: Prime time matchup... Red Sox vs. Yankees... Pedro vs. Clemens... Yankee Stadium... Goose eggs for 8 innings both ways... Trot Nixon drops one in the short porch in the 9th to win it 8-) :D
