It's interesting to me to see some of these lower tier players in this group (Whitey Herzog, Sam Mele, Bill Rigney and Dick Williams) who went on to become successful managers.

199. LMB - Granny Hamner 1950

I had been considering drafting Hamner, and did some research on him. He was the SS for the 1950 NL pennant winning Phillies. He's valued as a $690,000 player, but he actually finished sixth in the voting for the NL MVP in the 1950 season!!

My great grandmother was known in our family as "Granny Hammer" (Grace Elizabeth Riley Clyde Hammer) - the Clyde surname was my blood relative ..i dont think she ever played SS for the Phillies..oddly enough her second husband "Stillman Hammer" passed away in 1950 - same season as Hamners whiz kid Phillies...

Several ATG editions ago i used a middle infield of Solly Hemus and Granny Hamner and won a championship...
