I was in that defense adding up to 24 league and it was fun. As I recall either your second baseman or shortstop had to be a 4. It was fun to finally use awful fielders with gay abandon.

Never participated in any pre-card release leagues but often wondered if a lot of guys went over the cap and how it was handled if they did?

I was in one of those many years ago. It was fun. A lot of the fun was guessing what the pricing was going to be. First few picks were the prime players but toward the middle to late rounds picks got interesting as it was clear we were all trying to guess who the value cards might be.

Of course as PJ noted when the cards came out and the actual cards came out you had to choose from among those you drafted what you could afford. That made for for some difficult choices. Wish I could remember names but I do remember there were a few good players I drafted I had to leave off the card. Too bad I could not just restructure a few contracts like the Cowboys have been doing this week to get under their cap.

I think I figured out how to do the link to the losers league where one manager decided to play for the two free credits.

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/80041

here is a better link (to the team with the 159-3 record)
What is amazing is that this squad lost 3 games while the others were all trying to build the worst teams. Mike Scott has got to get the doghouse for this squad.
