Defense Question, which way would you play them?

PostMon Mar 04, 2013 12:32 pm

Have a new 2012 team starting tonight. Have these 2 guys who I could flop in positions. Wondering whom I should play where?

B Moss: 1B-3e27 or RF 3(-1)e9
T Colvin: 1B-3e17 or RF 2(-1)e6

Whom should be on 1B and whom in RF?

thanks!

I'd put Colvin in RF and Moss at 3B, The difference between the 2 and 3 in RF is much more significatn than the difference between the 17 and 27 error rating at 1b

On the field check a 2 RF gives up:( these results on a d20 for results reading 1-20)

1. Double**
2. Single**
3. Single **
4. F1
5-15. F2
16-20 F3

a 3 in RF gives up

1-3 Double **
4-6 Single**
7-8 F1
9-16 F2
17-20 F3

Error rating difference:( these rolls are figure using 3d6 fro results between 3-18)

1b 3e17 RP 5: 1b error on 3,6,11,12: and 2b error on 17
1b 3e27 RP 5: 1b error on 7,8,11,13,14: and 2b error on 3, 17 18

I beleive there are more OF check chances than 1b as well, but it could be the same, I don't remember for sure.

Thanks guys!

I had Moss in RF and was only looking for a 1B replacement and was just double checking my teams before todays start when I realized they both played both positions. Wasn't sure how bad the e27 was at 1B.

Thanks again ,I'll swap then and put Moss at 1B.

A quick look at a pitcher card 2 x chances for first base and 2 for the corner OF slots. So the same. CF gets 3 but that is not a factor here.

Agree with all previous posters as the change from 2 to 3 in OF means more extra base hits. The difference in error ratings is likely to be more single base errors. Give me a single base error over a double any day, especially if my client is in a contract year cause those errors won't impact the ERA. -- Scott Boras

Purely by the fielding numbers:

Moss 1B and Colvin RF would yield an average negative fielding OPS of .1607 (basically reduce each of their batting OPS by .1607 because of the bases they give up in the field).

Colvin 1B and Moss RF results in an average negative fielding OPS of .1669

so Moss at 1B and Colvin in RF (but only by .0062 Negative OPS) !

yeah, it's not a large difference as you're playing a high e-rat at 1b either way. Really the answer is to get a real 1b! ;)
