I think he wanted Stan Musial off me most of all, the starting pitching I traded didn't do a lick of good...

(No offense taken guys!)

When out with and married to 1st wife, looking at a woman walk by. 'She reminds me of my 2nd wife".

And you can't beat divorce as far as a salary dump is concerned.

Whether or not this would be a beneficial trade for either team and whether it would have helped much or at all if made earlier in season is an interesting discussion. And from my point of view that is partly just the value of reading a variety of points of view.

But I think we need to be careful not to cross the line between discussing the relative merits of a trade and accusing them of wrong doing.

Presently he has scored 105 runs since the trade versus 75 given up which according to Diamond Dope would result in only 105 wins not 108. And I would expect the run differential to be positive the rest of the year, which is much better than the -0.80 run differential before.

If you are going to create a bopping team you are far better off with Hornsby with his 1.8 OPS card rather than Sandberg
and his 1.5 versus righties and .938 versus lefties. The lineup is so much better with a great hitter in the middle versus both lefties and righties making both Maris and Aaron better values to me. His starting pitching is in a slightly worse condition, in that park the value of Maddux is not nearly so high, especially with poor defense and dropping 1.5 million in starting pitching (Maddux is 0.46 versus righties RC27 versus 0.61 for Joe Wood) to get a 4 million improvement at 2B really changes the offense. And his bullpen is every bit as good as it was before and probably better against right handed hitters. He had given up over 1000 runs already so having one defensive specialist on a subpar fielding team is a total waste to good pitchers\ing when you have a 2 or worse in all other positions, shortstop.

Likewise the team that lost Hornsby has seen a big drop in offensive production, going 3-6 at home in 9 games is a pretty good indication that trade is not going to work out too good as now they have a 9 game road trip. I'd rather have the additional 4 million of hitting at 2B and lose 1.5 million in starting to get a higher value roster on the field, but maybe that's just me.

Right Charlie, maybe...but funny when I post statistical oddities after say 100 -110 games worth of play there is a group of posters that swear that's not enough to go by because its such a small sample, yet you post a trend after a dozen games and no one says peep. You see Charlie admit it or not you rarely post anymore, but if it's to disagree with me you can't help but find your way into the thread.

I didn't even know you had posted earlier on this thread until you commented on my comment. I posted on this thread because I build a lot of bomber teams, I also posted on the how to build the best bomber teams and you will see on that from about a week ago that my comments are pretty much the same.

As far as size samples I have a rule I live by with my teams, never argue with HAL, if your team sucks after 36 games most likely your team isn't as good as you hoped.
