hey pip how many left-handed starting pitchers are in your division if its less than 4 I don't believe it will be a big problem anymore and he is too pricey for my blood

I have Headley and just ran the numbers on him and wont have him long after waivers he does little vs. lefties and very little vs. righties oh well live and learn

There are 6 in my division but all but one of them (Sale) is <$2m and most are in a five man rotation. Should be fine.

This set really brings home how the 200+ inning pitcher is becoming a dinosaur. I was a little surprised how few * pitchers were left after waivers had ran.

Can some one explain how Gerald Laird gets an even split card with these splits:

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
vs. Left 98 14 20 6 1 2 9 10 0 12 0 0 .204 .275 .347 .622
vs. Right 76 10 29 2 0 0 2 4 1 9 0 0 .382 .420 .408 .828

Can't figure this one out!

my guess on Laird is that most of his power came vs. lefties and that evened out his high avg vs.righties I had tried to get him to back up Ruiz but missed in waivers had to pick up McCann

If I had to bet my lunch money play Laird every day and the difference in BA left verses right will not be near what the real life split was. I know, blasphemy to imply a card would not exactly reproduce a season.

What I suspect is because of the small sample size of his real life numbers the card created is influenced some by his past years performance and L/R balance tendencies. So maybe his card this year is a little better than pure real life numbers might call for and his card verses righties is a little worse than the pure numbers would call for. This is not unprecedented in strat history. And my belief on this is partly based on memory of things written in the old strat fan magazine.

I might ask for a show of hands of all those who remember that publication and subscribed but not all may wish to give their age away like that.

I may have an issue or two of that mag laying around, course, I read it more for Football articles than baseball, as I've always preferred the Football Board game to the Baseball Board game. There were a lot of great rule innovations for footabll in Strat fan, like the 2 minute clock, individual Fumble ratings, individual WR reverse ratings, and a host of other things my FTF footbal league cribbed from Start Fan.

I would normally agree with you, but I am in a league with five Progressive Fields out of the twelve stadiums. The guys like Buster Posey will perform very well against all the lefties. If that trend continues, he's very draftable.
