Would Early Wynn in 1959 with 37 starts at age 39 qualify? Carlton in 1982 - age 39, 38 starts? Reuschel in 1988? Did Joe Niekro throw a knuckleball? Don't remember.
Niekro threw a knuckleball like his brother, but yes to both Wynn and Carlton, Reuschel I didn't research...I'll check more than once source next time...sorry guys.
The question says led or tied for MAJOR league lead. these guys led their leagues but had less than the other league leader. Wynn-NO. Lew Burdette led the majors.
Carlton-NO. Jim Clancy led the majors
Reuschel -NO. Dave Stewart lead the majors.
