Waivers placement question

On a team with waivers today,
I lost out on Bonds and Griffey with my first 2 picks.
I dropped to 7th in waivers.
I'm thinking I should be MUCH higher.

Am I wrong?

Could you clarify? Were Griffey and Bonds your first 2 picks on your autodraft card or your waivers selections?

If they were on your autodraft card missing on them would be unfortunate. But 7th waiver slot is possible because you do not know how many other people also missed on their first 2 picks. And the total number of hits and misses would come in to play. If you hit on all 23 remaining picks you could be deserving of waiver slot 12.

If they were on your waiver card need more information to get a clear picture of what you are describing before making guesses.

They were on my draft card. Waivers runs today.
I did get the rest of my choices.

Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if we ALL got the rest of our picks as well?

Don't know if this answers your question, but according to the Waivers FAQ:

The Waiver Priority order is based on the weight of draft picks lost. If a team loses out on its top priority pick, that's worth 25 weighted points. If a team loses its 25th pick, that's worth 1 weighted point. The team with the most total weighted points would be first in the Waiver Priority, and the team with the fewest would be last. If there is a tie for an amount of weighted points, the Waiver Priority spots are randomly assigned to those teams. Note: This method of determining the Waiver Priority was formerly offered as an alternative known as "Weighted Waivers", but is now the default setting.

I guess we would need to know what the other managers lost out on.
But...
Since my score is a 50, is it possible that 6 other managers had HIGHER scores than me?

They could conceivably have the same score, so the game engine would randomize your positions. You could have ended up holding the short stick. This happens all the time in franchise leagues where almost everyone knows what everyone else is going to autodraft because of exclusive rights. Oftentimes it is a twelve-way tie for waivers.

Based on what george barnard posts that would make for 325 possible points. You missed on your first 2 which is 49 leaving you with 276 if you got the remaining 23 picks you got.

I sampled 21 teams and found ...
max score was 259. So my best draft card would have picked above you in waivers.
Min score was 125. That one probably had 1st waiver pick.
Avg score was 186

Wait, checked it and that 125 score was only good for 3rd in waivers. How bad do I have to be to get first waiver pick?


Hope that was either helpful or entertaining because it killed a little time.

Used the points for picks received because it works easier with the way my spreadsheet tracking draft picks is set up.

This system is severly flawed.

So I can miss out on my first 2 picks, and draft ALL $.50 guys (get them) and still be 7th in waivers?

Maybe the first 2-3 picks should be MORE heavily weighted?
