12 team league is more common and fills faster. 24 team league needs to be no more than 60M team salary cap for anything other than ATG or else some teams will have much more salary than other teams due to the luck of the draft. 24 team leagues are fun but to start out playing this game I would suggest a 12 team league or two first.
Thanks. It seems to me that lefty starters would fare much better in a 24 team league. Is that true, or is that just my 20 team keeper league mentality? The salaries are the same here on this game so maybe it wouldn't make that much difference? Do lefty starters get lit up in 12 team leagues as a general rule?
Yes, lefty SP's do tend to have significantly worse stats than in real life in 12 team leagues. I enjoy 24 team leagues more and find the results are much more realistic, however as was said earlier they do take a while to fill.
24 team leagues are more challenging, more realistic. The player pool gets depleted so you must participate in the waivers or you can easily be left with salary to spend and no free agents to spend it on.
Welcome STEVEFREDIANI, you will find this game to be a lot of fun. The thing I had to learn when switching from the board game to the on-line game was building my team around my ballpark and the other ballparks in my division. ....Also, try not to get attached to drafting your favorite players, unless they are good values for what you are trying to do. And one more thing I think I noticed about your team, you may be spending too much money on your bench players. Good luck!
Thanks Radagast! I appreciate the input. Yeah, I went after my faves for my first team and a fairly neutral park. Strat gave me a free credit so I thought I 'd try it. I already bought another team, waivers process today!
My new team, just after waivers. Got stuck with Encarnacion in the draft, tried for AD Gonz and Pujols ended up with 3rd choice Carpenter w/ Canzler. Overall I think much better job with this team, although I should add that this is a 12 team league and my first team is a 24. 12 team: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1023691
Steve good luck with that team. I usual do not like to spend so much on a relief pitcher, because they tend to not get a lot of innings, but if you set your expensive relief pitcher to be your setup man and your middle man, maybe you will get a lot of innings out of him. With a 12 team league there are always players that go un-drafted that you can pick up to fix any holes you may have. Good luck!
