What Supercedes What?

PostSun Mar 24, 2013 7:41 am

I had Nathan listed at the top as Tied and late, Setup and Closer with no avoids at F8.....Clearly my intent was not to have him removed when facing the one lefty in their lineup...Yet while still at F9 after facing just 3 batters he was removed for my designated lefty specialist. Why?

Doesn't DONT REMOVE BEFORE, MEAN DONT REMOVE BEFORE???

It doesn't seem to matter what your intent was, no matter how clearly you stated it. HAL's intent supersedes everything!

More information. What inning did he enter game? Could you provide a link to the game.
It always concerns me a little more when I see nev post anything about not being able to get the settings tweaked to do just what he wants. Cause if he doesn't fully understand it as many teams as he runs I might as well throw darts at a wall to set my teams.

In the rules, under manager strategy one of the headings is "can I set the same pitcher for setup and closer?" and the answer is "yes but he wouldn't end up playing both roles, he would most likely be one or the other".

It seems something to that effect happened here. Although that makes it difficult to explain how the super relievers exist. :?

I would think it would matter on the situation and why Nathan was brought in. If Nathan was brought in as setup role and it got to be a late inning situation with one really tough lefty with a big negative R say Joe Jackson's 9.11 card then HAL looks to see if there is a specialist to pitch to him, as that is why you have a specialist to pitch to the one hitter that is batting one way. Other wise we could start a thread, how come HAL doesn't use my specialist when called for.

If the lefty was just a run of the mill lefty hitter like Nellie Fox, then it makes little sense

So "no avoid" and "don't remove before" are just there as suggestions?

I view them as how they are labeled, "preferences". I would prefer this guy to perform in this particualr role if possible. I do not look at them as iron-clad guarantees.

I would imagine that all the prefs we pass along to HAL create a few mixed signals at times. Which ones receive more weight?

I see your point about preferences, but nev's example is pretty straight forward with no gray area.

Avoid, IOW it doesn't say try to avoid.

Do not remove before, again it isn't saying pretty please, it's saying DO NOT remove before. IOW it's an IF THEN statement, if condition A is met then apply the settings the check box calls for. Condition A being F8 or whatever F rating nev used.
