INFO REQUEST

PostMon Mar 25, 2013 3:43 am

I would like to ask everyone for a rule clarification:

I would like to change my ballpark. I've been in the league for two years (maybe longer - can't recall!). However, as I read the rules, it appears that one can never change ones ballpark. Since others have been in the league longer, is this - in fact - how it has been handled in the past? Given that the old boards are gone, I'll rely on you all for your recollections regarding precedent.

Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for my delay drafting Sunday.

I haven't been in this league since the beginning, but I believe the only was is through trade. The only exception being someone who is taking over a team.

Yup, that's what the rules say. That just leaves us all looking at a bunch of unused, unavailable ballparks:)

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Has anyone ever traded a park and then been allowed to pick up an unused one?

I got to select a new one when I joined last year.

Otherwise I haven't seen any real discussion on it that I recall.

I don't believe we have ever allowed ballparks to be chosen unless a new manager is taking over a team. You can always put a new rule up for a vote if you would like to see it changed. I know other keeper leagues allow you to change every 3 years or something like that.

The only way to get a new ballpark in this league is to trade them. New owners get to pick a park when they join, and existing owners can do a sign and trade to get the park they want from the unused ones.

I would be up for being able to change parks every 3 years or so. I don't see a real reason to disallow changing parks, other than that is the way we've always done it, and we'd require 8 votes for a rule change.

STADIUM RULE AMENDMENTS VOTE

PostMon Mar 25, 2013 3:44 pm

This is all very helpful. Originally, the issue came up for me when considering Sknsfan's situation. Sun Life is no more, and Marlin Park has replaced it. Yet, nowhere in the rules does it specifically state that he must take the park that was built to replace the one he lost. Some would argue that he should have to take Marlin Park because it's associated with the team. Others would say that he is free to pick any available park. As I've considered the rules on this, which are muddy at best, I believe they at least need to be amended.

Here are what I would propose as amendments to the current rules:

CURRENT RULES
Stadium rules:
1) Each player will draft a stadium during Round 41 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
2) Stadium draft order will be the reverse of Round 1 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
3) Stadiums are unique and belong to each owner for the duration of the league. There will be no annual or seasonal draft of new stadiums, so choose your stadium wisely.
4) Stadiums can only be changed through trade. Players may trade stadiums with other players at any time except while a regular season is in progress.
5) Replacement owners will be allowed a one-time option to change stadiums upon joining the league.

AMENDED RULES: AMENDMENTS PROPOSED ARE IN BOLD
Stadium rules:
1) Each player will draft a stadium during Round 41 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
2) Stadium draft order will be the reverse of Round 1 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
3) Stadiums are unique and belong to each owner for the duration of the league. There will be no annual or seasonal draft of new stadiums, so choose your stadium wisely.
4) Stadiums can be changed through trade. Players may trade stadiums with other players at any time except while a regular season is in progress.
5) Replacement owners will be allowed a one-time option to change stadiums upon joining the league
6) An owner may select a new stadium every two years from those not currently in use, and selection will be on a first-come/first-served basis. New stadium selection will only be allowed during the drop and draft periods directly preceding free agent drafts (both annual and supplementary).
7) In the event that an MLB stadium is, for any reason, retired from use, that stadium's owner will be allowed to switch to a new stadium not currently in use.

To vote on these, we should split them up. The amendment to rule 4 is academic based on whether amendments 6 & 7 pass or fail. Yes votes are "for" the rule amendment. No votes are "against" the rule amendment.

Rule 6:

6) An owner may select a new stadium every two years from those not currently in use, and selection will be on a first-come/first-served basis. New stadium selection will only be allowed during the drop and draft periods directly preceding free agent drafts (both annual and supplementary).

Rule 7:

7) In the event that an MLB stadium is, for any reason, retired from use, that stadium's owner will be allowed to switch to a new stadium not currently in use.

I don't like the idea of regularly changing ballparks. In one league I'm in there are rules allowed to change ballparks if the rating changes dramatically. This would potentially also solve the problem of a ballpark being discontinued or the dimensions changing.

For example if all of a sudden they brought the walls in at Petco and it went from a 1-1 for home runs to a 1-18, the owner could change to an available stadium that most closely resembles what he had.

Here are my thoughts:

Rule 6: I kind of liked the idea that your stadium is your stadium, period. I do understand the thought that this is a game and we want everyone to have a good time, but i liked that this was one of the things that made this league different.

Rule 7: (And not just because this one effects me) I believe that while yes I am tied to a stadium, I didn't sign up to be tied to the team, otherwise I would have selected the Miami Marlins, and not Sun Life Stadium. And it's not just a name change - the whole stadium is just not an option for play for the cards. So i believe that anyone should have this option when this situation arises.
