This is my 7th ATG $140million team...but I NEVER....

Can one of you experienced old timers here help me understand how this happened?

I listed Rogers Hornsby $12.00 FIRST and Babe Ruth $13.03 SECOND on my draft list.

I understand getting Reggie Jackson as the consolation prize for Ruth, but how in the heck did I get Sandberg as the boobie...I mean consolation prize for Hornsby? That would mean That at least 8 other owners drafted in front of me and ALL had 2b as their first overall pick:

To get Sandberg with my first overall pick means that 8 other owners all got these 2b as their #1 overall picks:
HORNSBY
LAJOIE
COLLINS
MORGAN
GEHRINGER
ALOMAR
BIGGIO
BOONE

[size=150]I've NEVER complained about HAL in the autodraft, but is it possible for him to screw up and if not, did this REALLY HAPPEN???

Overall, I'm happy with my draft having gotten 20 of the 25 players I listed. http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1024728

As a side note, Here are the 5 boobie prizes I got:
#1 PICK Sandberg instead of Hornsby
#2 PICK Reggie instead of Ruth
#8 PICK Brewer instead of Murray
#15 PICK Fournier instead of Frank Thomas (dropped Fournier pre-waivers)
#23 PICK Perkins instead of Bresnahan

You're thinking about how the draft runs is wrong. Hal doesn't place replacement players until the entire draft has run. Then he goes back and hands out the replacements. SO, those other 8 2Bmen didn't need to be listed first on other manager's cards, they on.y needed to be listed somewhere.

Once you missed on Hornsby you had to wait until the full 25 rounds were done before getting a replacement.

Make sense?

Essentially, you got Sandberg because he was the highest priced 2Bman that wasn't drafted at all by anyone.

Thanks. I really had it all wrong all this time. I'm glad after 50+ ATG leagues I finally understand how that works. It makes sense, I guess I should STOP listing Hornsby #1 in $140 leagues :D

In 3 previous $140 leagues I've gotten Eddie Collins twice and Charlie Gehringer once as my boobie prizes so I didn't question HAL before.

That explains that a few weeks ago in a $100m draft I got Bonds with the 25th pick. I guess in that league nobody else even listed Bonds...I was wondering how that happened if others went for Ruth and then didn't get Bonds as their consolation. Draft strategy really is an evolution process ;)

We went through this is the 200mil thread. So HAL doesn't get to the replacements (for missed picks) until he has taken care of everyone's draft card? Then he goes back and give replacements, following the same draft order? I guess I didn't get that from the other discussion, I was too busy being all happy I got most of my guys... ;)

What's wrong with Ryno? Seems like a good fit for your park. It's only an $80M league, but 1990 Sandberg is doing great for me.
