Griffey 9.66 Mil. Card

PostFri Apr 05, 2013 3:04 pm

I had Griffey 9.66 Mil card in two consecutive leagues and he was injured for 41 games in one league and 29 games in the other league. This is a very productive card in a hitters park but if you select this card you should be prepared to do without him for a substantial number of games. In a close race for the playoffs it could be costly. 41 games is 25% of the season. With a injury rating of one(1) I'm not sure I understand how this could happen. Could someone explain?

AB+BB MAX INJURY
0-599 15 games (black 1)
600-679 3 games (italic geen 1)
680+ remainder of game (bold green 1)

That Giffey card can get injured for up to 15 games. It may be worth the extra $390,000 to upgrade to the durable 10.05 card.

I've yet to be overly impressed with a Griffey card. While I've seen him put up more than respectable power numbers his BA & OBP never seem to live up to his real life stats.

Mix in the injury riddled lower priced card and he is a hard sell on me.

Next time go to the 9.14 card. He doesn't get hurt. On my last team in Wrigley '78 he did this.

644 136 197 32 1 53 130 56 141 13 6 11 .306 .371 .606

Not bad really.

The 1994 card comes from a strike season. The game may not take that into account, which is why he is injured more often. As to Griffey under performing his OBP: Most years a significant chunk of walks come from IBBs, as far as I can tell Strato treats IBBs like a non-event, and does not factor them in when making a card-- so if you deduct Griffey's 25 IBBs from his 1993 walk total he is a really a true talent .380 OBP guy instead of a .400. I don't really like this practice, but I understand why it is done.
