That's what I had in mind. He apparently made a couple of dazzling field plays that day. And I don't recall how many games it was, but DiMaggio went on another hitting streak of about 14 games following the game his 56 game hitting streak was snapped.

Dimaggio also has the second longest minor league hitting streak at 61 games in 1933. Joe Wilhoit has the minor league record at 69 games set back in 1919. Thank you wikipedia for the info.

BTW, I am a Southern California native, and attended a number of games at Dodger Stadium during the 70s and 80s. In fact, my wife and I got engaged following a Dodger game in 1985.

However, now that I live near Fresno and occasionally attend baseball games of the Giants AAA affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies, I am more of a Giants fan these days, as I have gotten to see a number of their players (Buster Posey, Nate Schierholz) as they've progressed through the Giants minor league system.

And now the Brooklyn Nets have an arena right about where O'malley wanted to build a new ballpark in Brooklyn. People villify Walter O'Malley but the real bad guy was Robert Moses who i think wanted to put the new Dodger ballpark in Queens...same place where Shea Stadium would be built. The Dodgers wanted to build a domed stadium in Brooklyn.
