Explain THIS

PostTue Apr 09, 2013 11:47 pm

In an 8th inning rally, Joe Charboneau pinch hits for my 3rd baseman; Sandy Alomar pinch runs for my catcher and Dick Whitman pinch runs for my SS. The rally works and we are up 5-3 heading into the 9th. And out to play D are the same substitutes in the very same places. Alomar (who can play SS and 3rd) is my catcher (but my healthy backup catcher remains on the bench)....Awful outfielder Joe Charboneau is at the hot corner and outfielder Whitman is at short. Meanwhile a healthy "1" 3rd baseman (and "3" SS) Lee Tannehill stays on the bench as well. What in the world? 3 guys totally out of position with 3 available guys that could have played.

Interesting. You should run this through the online email and see how they respond.

I did:

We do not know why those players were not removed for the correct defensive alignment other than the game tries to prevent using too many players at once in order to use players later however that should not have been the case here since these players were out of position. We will investigate this and work on improving the game code to try and prevent this from happening in the future.

Unfortunately it probably ends there and you will never know if it was actually looked at or not.
It would be really nice if they followed up at some future time and said hey we found the bug and it has been corrected. :D

This is an example of why I think there should be an open issues list posted somewhere. At least then everyone could see this had been acknowledged and was scheduled to be looked in to. And once resolved we would all be able to see what the resolution was. Would go a long way toward restoring confidence in the game which was badly damaged during the transition.

Great idea for an open issues list. That would take a lot of the uncertainty out of the "wish list" approach to making changes.

Encountered a great example of how an open issues list could help here.

I am commissioner of a yahoo fantasy league. One of the managers in my league sent me a message this morning. Apparently there was a glitch and none of the pitching stats from yesterday got applied. I clicked the help link to report it but there was no need. Right there was a list of known issues with the problem I was going to report. There was a link that took me to a page that explained yahoo was aware of the issue and engineers were actively working on the problem.

As commissioner of that league I really appreciated that. Straightforward communication. There is no substitute.

I copied the link and posted it on my league's message board. So everyone now knows what is happening. Nobody is openly upset. Blood pressure medicine prices are not skyrocketing due to increased demand. And I bet that because they have that open issues page yahoo is getting far fewer people notifying them of the problem. So their engineers are spending their time fixing the problem instead of reading emails reporting it or logging on to forums to discuss it. So it probably gets fixed a little faster further increasing customer happiness with the product. :D
