From the FAQ:
"Q: Does the game take fatigue into account? Specifically do you have to rest low-PA/IP players?
A: No there are no usage limits for players. Players can play as long as they are healthy. Just remember that players with under 600 AB+BB can be hurt for up to 15 games at a time. Players between 600-679 AB+BB can only be injured for a maximum 3 games while any player over 680 AB+BB can only be injured for the current game."

How on Earth can pre-162 game schedule players get to 680 AB+BB? I've got Willie Mays injured for 3 games now--in real life that '55 season he played 152 of his team's 154 games, and played *the whole game* for all of those, collecting 659 AB+BB. Even if he played all 154 games and picked up a dozen more PA, he still would have been short of the 680 level and subject to injuries of up to 3 games!

This is illustrative of why it's ridiculous to have the same thresholds for those who played 154-game versus 162-game schedules.

But we re not in a strike shortened season... or a 154 game season.

Mays has 1 injury chance against both L and R pitchers. if, he is injured his max of 3 games, 3 times in one year, which, would be alot, most, 3 gamer guys seem to miss 3 or 6 games a season.

Anyhoo... mays misses 9 games, means he plays 154, if, for some reason, he missed 12, then he would be at 151...

And, he is priced accordingly. If he was a 0 gamer, he would be priced 1 - 1.5 mill more.

The pricing done by the staff of SOM, and the Beta guys, includes such things as injuries when the prices are doled out for the cards.

It s not a perfect world, nor a perfect system, but they (SOM) had to come up with something and, it is fair, cause we all play the same system and cards.

And yes, this is the best game there is for replaying with the past greats of the game, and Aybar too! lol Hey, if APBA had an online gaming engine like this, yes, I would try it. But they dont.

You make an excellent point about the challenge of getting 680+ PA before the 162 game schedule. I consider that a flaw in the game.

But consider this. If you hit leadoff your chances of getting 680+ is easier than if you hit 9th. Now of course we all know that in real life when #9 hitters get injured they are more likely to go on 15 day DL than leadoff hitters because leadoff hitters are just tougher guys by nature. :lol: And a player that is platooned has no chance of even getting to 600 PA.

Injuries, both frequency and duration should be reflective of how healthy a player actually was in a given season.

But Strat is not going to ever make an effort to improve the injury system. So you can accept and live with this flaw or you can allow it to ruin your enjoyment of it.

I've played SOM since 1971. Since this version of the board game is adjudicated on a computer, it should be a straightforward programming exercise to dampen and adjust injuries to be very close to actual games missed for every player.

By the way, my '55 Willie Mays has now missed 6 out of my first 40 games. In actual fact, he missed 6 games TOTAL in three seasons 1955-57.

that's nothing. i had the '28 lindstrom (who is a 3 game inj) miss 50 games in a season not long ago. just through repeated regular 3 game injuries. it was maddening.

The guy who gets the injury shaft more than any other player is Roy Campanella. He played in 144 of 154 games in 1953. Not only is he a 15 game injury man, but his injury is on the 3/11 line, meaning he will draw the red card 6 times on average. Waaay back in ATG 2, I used him and he was injured for 65 games. Never used him again, except in franchise theme leagues.
My argument to move his injury to the 2/12 line fell on deaf ears.
