Can you imagine how deflating it must be to be a player on the Marlins and have to look up at those empty seats every game. They probably look forward to going on the road.

All fans around the league should bring signs to the park when the Marlins come to town to give the Marlins players a little sympathy.

OK I know this is rubbing salt in the wound, but this picture (attached to an ESPN.com column about the woeful Marlins) says a thousand words.

We've been cursed down here.

Two rings in the past 15 years. Roller coaster ride? Yes. Cursed? That's the Cubs.

No kidding.
Brewers, Astros, Padres, Mariners, Expos/Natioals all have ZERO rings. Cubs 100 years, Indians 60 years
So whining about the Marlins is falling on deaf ears. And most young players are happy to be in the big leagues and happy to be on the way to making big money. I don't think they really care about attendance.

The Marlins' attendance so far is pretty amazing...just under 20,000 per home game. But the snowbirds have headed north, and there's no one here but us locals for a while. So the numbers should start to plunge.

Apparently, the Marlins front office is papering South Florida with free tickets. I was listening to a local sports talk radio show yesterday -- one of their affiliates -- when they casually mentioned that they've received 100 tix for each home game. This is the same station that was refused tickets to opening day last year. I'd be willing to bet a dollar against a doughnut that they're doing the same thing with several media outlets to make themselves look better than they should.

Personally, I wish there was religation in MLB like there is in professional soccer. The Marlins would look a lot better in the International League.

They had better care. Attendance pays their salary along with TV money. And of course they care. Nobody wants to play I front of small, indifferent, and uninterested fans. NOBODY!
And furthermore, before I crawl down off of my soapbox, this is about integrity. Jeff Loria is garbage. He has no integrity just like Bud Selig who is the only person to do more to destroy baseball. Loria has destroyed two teams and Selig has destroyed a whole sport. World Series rings mean absolutely nothing in this situation. This is about integrity. NUFF SAID!

I just finished watching Bryant Gumble give David Samson the Mike Wallace (60 Minutes) treatment on HBO. If you haven't seen it, Samson comes across as a lying scumbag - which he probably is. I lost count how many times he said "I'm Sorry" during the interview. Wow - what a mess.

How did Selig destroy a whole sport?

How did Selig destroy a whole sport?

By creating an environment where baseball has record revenues.

By creating an environment where attendance is way too high.

By introducing revenue sharing mechanisms which have resulted in too many teams being contenders. Almost impossible these days to predict what teams will be buyers and sellers as the trade deadline approaches.

By talking the players union in to drug testing including blood testing this year.

Do you need more evidence?
