I am of the opinion that manager ratings are a useless stat, given the opportunity for quantity of teams to exceed quality of general-managership.

If there was a way to accurately rate managers' ability/success it would be useful in preventing newer managers from getting in over their heads. It would also help if SOM (if they were reasonable enough to do so) would then enable managers to create leagues that would set a limit on ability levels, preventing "no rings" or "less than 500" leagues from suddenly finding a 12th player with 20000 points who "got in by mistake."

Let's drop the manager ratings and give everyone participation ribbons. ;)

Okay, I've argued this before and Bernie denied it.

Manager ratings are designed to get people to buy more teams by taking advantage of people's competitiveness. No other reason. And when Strat dropped the ball on our past team data they shot themselves in the foot. Again.

I personally don't care about the total points, which had me listed as #2 overall. But what I did find interesting and helpful was, at a quick glance, being able to tell how experienced the manager was and how successful (i.e. winning pct).

I agree with Valen. Nev and I were rarely to be found in any division but the West. It wasn't so much people pulling out of leagues that we joined earlier but more that they wouldn't fill quickly if our names were there.

What I miss most is our manager ratings by ballpark and cap.

But if the ratings do return in a fashion akin to what they were, SOM should either abandon the advanced vs standard league distinction as it is totally arbitrary and therefore meaningless, or come up with a distinction between the two that means something. Of course I have no faith at all that they are interested in, or able to, accomplish this. Just look at the 'live draft' fiasco. 15 months and counting since that functionality disappeared. In that sense, Mr. Richman reminds me of Mr. Obama. You know, "change you can believe in."
