Attaboy HAL!

PostWed Apr 24, 2013 3:46 am

As much as I usually am puzzled by some of HAL's moves it is time to pat HAL on the back for a brilliant sequence of moves. My Cardinals were down 6 to 3 to the Tigers in the 8th inning when HAL decided to counteract the Tiger's move of bringing in Hernandez to pitch to a series of lefties by bringing in Pujols to pinch hit for McCarver resulting in a 2 out, 2 run homer to make it 6 to 5. This was not so unusual in itself as I do have Pujols listed as my pinch hitter against LH even though I do not have McCarver listed as avoiding LH, but the next few moves HAL made are where HE really deserves credit: Simmons came in to replace McCarver and HAL kept Pujols in the game replacing McGwire at 1B, putting Simmons in McGwire's clean up spot which resulted in Simmons hitting a game tying ninth inning home run on a roll which would have been an out on McGwire's card. Normally I would question taking out McGwire while my squad was still trailing but the end results certainly justify the means in this case.

Would be more enlightening and useful if you shared what defensive settings, etc you had in place.
After all what most of us really care about is not will HAL occasionally do the right thing but rather how to get HAL to do what we want.

Actually I do not have any defensive changes involving this switch. I do not have it toggled to remove McGwire for a defensive sub nor do I have Pujols listed as a defensive sub (though in hindsight I should have it checked that way.) As for the catchers I do have it set to remove Simmons for a defensive sub and McCarver as a defensive replacement but the way it took place was the opposite. HAL tried the same maneuver the next game but it didn't work as well.
