Two more spots. If you like drafting and trading this format is for you!

Paul,

A few of questions:

1. I assume that the free agents are free agents every season and are selected via a draft based on the prior season record, right? Will there be a lottery for the worst 3 or 4 teams?

2. Can you drop free agents?

3. Do trades involving keepers have be balanced - if you trade one keeper you have to receive one keeper in return?

4. Keepers who are not "kept" at the end of the season, do they become free agents?

See answers below.

A few of questions:

1. I assume that the free agents are free agents every season and are selected via a draft based on the prior season record, right? Will there be a lottery for the worst 3 or 4 teams? Yes on free agents. We can vote on the lottery but personally I like the idea.

2. Can you drop free agents? Yes.

3. Do trades involving keepers have be balanced - if you trade one keeper you have to receive one keeper in return? Balance isn't necessary. You could have as many as 25 keepers. We may have to set a minimum number of keepers so guys aren't tempted to trade all their keepers for free agents. We can talk about this before getting started.

4. Keepers who are not "kept" at the end of the season, do they become free agents? Yes.

This looks too interesting. I'm in. Looking forward to it - adds more GM strategy.

Clarification Needed

OK so in the inaugural draft we pick 22 "keepers"

Managers will have to carry over their core players from season to season as follows:

2007 - 22 keepers - 3 round draft of free agents
2008 - 21 keepers - 4 round draft of free agents
2009 - 20 keepers - 5 round draft of free agents
...

Question 1 - Assuming no trades of keepers are made:
In 2007, we can't cut any of the drafted 22 keepers, we draft 3 more free agents and can change those 3 at will.
In 2008, we can cut a max of 1 of our original 22 drafted players, and draft 4 free agents, that we can change at will. The 21 keepers need to remain on the roster for the entire season.
In 2007, we can cut 1 of our remaining 21 original drafted players....and so on
Is that correct?

Question 2 - Before the 2007 season starts, Coach "A" trades a keeper to Coach "B" for a non-keeper:
This would mean that Coach A has 21 "keepers" and Coach B has 23 "keepers". What happens then?

Sorry, a little slow on the uptake today.

Hey Geoff, the e-mail didn't come through. Check the spelling of the last name. paul.e.wootten@gmail.com.

I'm going to be tied up most of the afternoon but will set up the draft later today. In the meantime, if someone wishes to double-check the master lists, please do. If not, we'll assume my list is what we'll use.

Does anyone think they'll have trouble checking in during the draft? If so, I will be happy to send text updates or e-mails when your turn comes up. If interested let me know via the e-mail above. I've been in leagues where we did text updates and they worked very well. It's those 20-hour delays between draft picks that drive people nuts.

I'm adding one additional rule. A team's number of keepers can never be more than three less than that year's base number. Keeper numbers can go as high as 25. This will eliminate the opportunity for a manager to trade all his draft picks and then get to select a totally new team.

OK, back later. Thanks for signing up. I'm excited about the draft.
