Most Overrated Player

Who is the most overrated player in the ATG&? I never have any success with any Robbie Alomar card. He is way over priced!

Alomar certainly would make my top five, along with ARod, Jim Edmonds, Brian Giles and Tim Salmon.

I would disagree with Giles.

IMO he is a prime EG of a card you platoon to make the most of his card. Is that what you've done with him in the past? Playing him everyday, against all pitching, in any park, yikes.

I've mostly been meh with my impression of Robbie. He seems best suited for 100mil, 80mil.

I would suggest Eric Davis, who's always saved his worst for me, at any rate!

Vizquel seems much overpriced; his defense is wonderful but 6.26 mil for someone with his bat (or lack thereof) is too much.

As for pitchers, McLain and Hubbell among starters and for relievers, many of the modern or current closers are R1 and priced close to or above the five million mark; tough to use them at the lower caps it would seem at those prices despite great stats because they don't eat innings for you.

Speaking of modern relievers: Percival is an R2, but he's a terrible value with that big fat hr on a 4-5 roll against RHs. He's averaged a homerun every 4 innings or so when I've been stuck with him in theme leagues. As an R1 with an even worse hr roll, Wetteland is a disaster.

Wow, I remember when Denny McLain was fought over like crazy.

A lot (not all) of these guys who are listed as overrated (or overpriced, as this looks more like the argument) are STRONG defensive players, which doesn't show up in the "counting stats". Or either they derive a lot of value from OBP, which in many cases doesn't show up as pretty on the Stats Page as a high BA.

When I look at overrated, I think of players that some other managers really like. I am not a fan of McGwire's $11M card - just doesn't seem to produce well for me. Slow on the bases, average around .220, mediocre defense.

I'm also not a huge fan of Mantle at lower caps. He can have monster seasons, but there are also times where he doesn't even land in the top 20 in league OPS, and he's a 2 in CF. I'd take him in 200M leagues any time, but at lower caps it has to the right situation.

I just have not got anything out of Joe Morgan, usually he ends up in the 270's even way lower and far below his walks and HR's. However I have seen many others win with em. Alomar for me has been terrible and despite his fielding I'd rather take my fielding chances with say a Homerun Johnson who always provides some pop.
I think Berkman and Giles can be terrible for the cash and have never seen them perform for me or anyone else.
I still think alot of it is individual preference and what people want out of guy. I was surprised a bit by Treyomo's comment(his team just kicked my butt in the barnstormers) about Mantle. Mickey(the high end one) has always been a god to me, I have had several 70 HR and above seasons and RBI arama's, once in ATG5 I think he had 242.

When it comes to pitching, I wanna like Sandy Koufax but his performance really gives no reason for it. When I first started I picked the high end Jack Kramer and it was a disaster. I have never seen anyone again stupid enough to pick em. So I guess everyone else was aware he just plan sucks. Jack Kramer, yea he sucks, thats my vote for the Most Overrated Player.
