Happy to win two last night, could have easily swept.

Had a 6-0 lead and Hal in his brilliance leaves in my Mop up guy to try to close.

Well, it's a Small Sample Size and bit of luck for a .58 guy to have a 2.96 ERA. Still doesn't mean Hal should be leaving him in there once it got to a closing situation!

Oh well. I know it's not the only pitching anomaly we'll see all year! ;) 8-) And I'm sure some of them will certainly break my way. Just thought it was really weird.

Ok, gotta get back to work and I have a softball game tonight so I don't know when I'll get some comments in. Feel free to make your own observations.

A quick one, they seem very close this year. In Overall, only Big A (up) and Corky (Down) seem way off. The rest are decently close. DJ could have some complaints however.

Gosh, not a single comment? (Fixed the sort on the first listing to be by overall)

In SOM action, we lost 2 of 3 at home against Big A. A heartbreaker in game 3. A stirring comeback (with some breaks) to tie the game and have the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, but can't do it and then lose on a single, two steals by Gordon and a squeeze by Reyes. :(

Yes, Gordon is our hero now!

Strange series, we didn't need a relief pitcher in the first two games, then we had to use 5 RPs to get through the last two innings in game 3.

Concerning the ratingss, JTJ, I really don't know what to think of it. My team is kind of an anomaly right now ... and I hope that will last! 8-)

I saw the ratings Joe, and it just adds to my frustration. I liked my team coming in based on simulations and now I see that they were rated in your system pretty high as well. For some reason its not translating to SOM online...don't know what the reason is. :?

Also, could you explain the ratings a little more? Is a higher or lower number better for pitching? What do the division numbers mean? Thanks!

Big A,

The big difference is that you're scoring a LOT more runs than would be expected. For example your team has low ob across the board and yet, you're second in OB.

Part of that is due to the fact that the P+F in the East is the weakest, by far, in the league.

Here are the averages for each division
Code: Select all
Divn   Offn   Ptch   Fld   P+F   Overall
East   7867   5343   465   5809   2058
Cent   7847   5172   450   5622   2225
West   7616   5286   371   5656   1960

We're hoping you cool off!

Corky,

Looks like to me you're having some bad luck. Your Pythag is a little low and I would expect your offense to be a bit better. The Central does have the best pitching however so that'll depress your O a bit. Another thing is that your O is very HR dependent and doesn't have a lot of OB or average especially v RHP. You're prolly hitting a lot of solo shots. Be glad your division is so tight!

Lower numbers are better for pitching and fielding.

The "division numbers" aren't really division nubmers it's just that the way it formatted didn't put the headings over the numbers. I have fixed that. It should make more sense now.

Some other, general, observations:

Semper should be better on Offense especially in the East. Keyzick too. However Keyz is in the Central where all the teams are low on O except for Hawk.

On Pitching/D I just realized that I posted wrong numbers so I have now correct that above. Hawk's hasn't been what I would expect, but it's very D dependent and that causes a lot of variability to the D rating. Obviously his D isn't helping as much as it could be. The rest are remarkably close. The biggest difrferences would be Corky (under) and Sempter/Stoney over.

all the Fielding is close with the biggest anomaly being my squad.

Overall the ratings would say
East - Jet should win it easy
Central - Two team race between DJ and Corky with Hawk hanging around a bit and Keyz an also-ran
West - Jeep is the best, but GB and Big M aren't far behind. Stoney is close enough to be a threat but should fall short.
W/C - Would expect it to go to either DJ or Corky

Reality is this:
East- Big A is surprising, but, as ratings would project, jet has the 2nd best rec in the league and the best run dif by a good margin. AT is surprisingly close.
Central - An absolute horse race with no one having the upper hand presently. Surprising that the division doesn't have a better out-of-division record.
West - Ratings are right on here with GB and Jeep at the top. The surprise is that Big M isn't closer. Still with the ratings as close as they are, I think anyone could win this division and it wouldn't be a huge surprise.
W/C - Jet is up by 5 over Jeep/GB at present.

Come on fellas, give me something besides for crickets on these writeups. Do you think they accurately rate your team? If not, why not?

In the mean time, Big A refuses to lose!

He's won:
six straight
9 of 10
14 of 17
19 of 25

I could go on, suffice it say he hasn't lost a series since May 10 and hasn't lost two series in a row since we took 2 of 3 on May 5.

No wonder I can't gain on the guy. :( I mean, we're not playing great, but yeesh, he's heading for 100 wins. +14 in one run games!
