It probably goes without saying, but...
One of the "3D chess" thoughts I've been having about how to make my draft picks is...that I think we need to try to make our picks fit into the salary cap more or less FOR EACH SEASON - 2007-2012!!!!
Am I right?
If so, this means that we have to try to have our high value picks be somewhat complementary to each other in terms of "peaks" in their salaries year by year.
What happens if we're accidentally over $80 million for one of the card years? What can we do about that? A few posts ago it was said that we can't "hide" our keepers, but what if we go over $80 million in a particular card year - especially the first few seasons when we have the highest keeper requirements? (I guess in the later years we can manage being over by "dropping" a high salary keeper, but then is he gone forever after that season?).
If my interpretation is right, then we really have to watch our salary cap management, especially for the first few seasons. No point drafting Lincecum if I have to drop him after 2011 - wait, that's a bad example - hmmm....
