I guess the Mets got back at the Braves big time at the conclusion of the season.

Rick Smith wrote: I have never given much credence to "Extra Sensory Perception" or the"Super Natural," but with Bob Risden selecting Chick Hafey I am beginning to think his day job might involve palm reading. I have made 80 picks over these four leagues, and 16 times the player I had in mind was taken right before by Bob. Chicago and Bakesfield must be about 2,000 miles apart, it is amazing he can read my thoughts over that distance.

Hey Rick - keep your eyes on your own paper. On second thought, with my subpar showing in these ATG Leagues, maybe you should find a more successful owner to share thoughts with...

On May 22, 1969, Atlanta Braves slugger Hank Aaron is lifted for a pinch-hitter for the first time in his major league career. Mike Lum, batting for Aaron in the seventh, hits a pinch-hit double in the Braves’ 15-3 blowout of the New York Mets. Aaron had come to bat 9,015 times in his career before being removed for a pinch-hitter.

Removing Aaron for a pinch hitter?? I thought only HAL would do something like that!!

That day was also my 10th birthday.

Thanks. I think most of the guys in our league are about the same age. What number is coming up for you?

I'll repost the draft list so it doesn't get lost in the discussion.

I was 13 years old during the 1969 season. I remember Reggie getting off to a blazing start that season and the resulting talk that Roger Maris' single season homerun record might be in jeopardy. I think RJ had something like 32 homeruns at the All Star break (actually 34 by 7/5/1969). He cooled off substantially during the second half.

BTW, Happy B'day, Gordie.

In reviewing the link about Jackson's homeruns, I find out that four of his career homeruns were inside-the-park homers.

Youth is wasted on the young.

I graduated from high school in the spring of '69; on 7/20/69 rode the Ferris wheel at a church picnic with my girl the night Neil Armstrong walked on the moon; a few weeks later, read and heard about a bunch of wild and crazy hippies jamming it up at Woodstock; went away to college in the fall of '69 to the enjoyment of another epic Cub's collapse. Crap - seems like yesterday.

I am also 49. Turn 50 on November 20th this year. However, my wife is in her 30s, so by rule of "you are as young as the person you feel", I am also in my 30s. Feels great!

Happy BDay Gordie!

By the way GF, I am flying back to Minneapolis next week to work with the packers/movers. It will be my last weekend in the Twin Cities for a long long time. I am now a Boise Idaho man! I'll miss the Twin Cities. It's a very clean beautiful city.
