What that Miami pitcher did was obvious and rubbing up the ball after was a little gross for me.
But found the new method of corking bats interesting.

Be like the major league pitcher who, when in the minor leagues, recognized a two-umpire crew behind home plate and second base couldn't tell where on the mound he was standing, so he moved up about 2 feet toward the plate on two-strike counts and made his fastball surprisingly explosive.

Another thing I found interesting in that article was the statement by the bat company that adding an x to the model number would get you a specially corked bat that would be hard to detect. One would think MLB would require anyone making official bats for major league teams to certify they would never ship an illegal bat.
