It's interesting to see some of the names on here ... I've had excellent seasons from Cedeno, Palmiero, and Petrocelli (although Rico has been hit or miss for me). In several $80-100 leagues the $7 million Alomar has provided .400+ obp and stellar defense, which might qualify him as underpriced.

Often it's just luck of the draw with this game. It might be fairer to say that these cards are "riskier," in that they sometimes underperform.

I am also a bit puzzled.... most of these posts I think are 200mil oriented. in 80, 100 even 140s I have had more success than not with rico, berkman (although very seldom used) and arod 10.63. I agree all three can't hack in 200 mil, but sht, the rico defense with 40hrs in say minute maid 80/100 mil is a pretty great value for just over 7 mil. arod is better d and 50 hrs in that minute maid make up

it seems most of the 1998 and up cards are the ones people have issues with as for production. maybe the strat card makers got it right when comparing the OFF stats over the era's. I mean guys like edmonds, probably sosa, def chuckster and omar would never hit those numbers, maybe not even play the defense they did, in the pre 1960's era's

ps looooooooove giles in a platoon, any cap

I agree w/Hack Wilson on 200 mil. - only played it a few times and what I took away from the experience was that if you don't have a great draft, you are SCREWED!!!

Not sure how you can just write off 200mil results. If some 9mil plus players are very good at the 200mil level and some are not, isn't that exactly the question being asked here?

I disagree.

I think you are only screwed if you have a horrible draft. Otherwise I think you just need to be able to adjust on the fly, and be prepared and willing to create some platoon opportunities.

Being a sly salesman also helps when trading I suppose.

Money solves all ills. Go up to 200 mil and then platoon. Jeter is awesome against righties. Sandberg, etc. A platoon of Cronin and Jeter was unbelievable. I have great succes with Big Mac, he always hits a ton of bombs. Now that you mention overrated, Turkey Stearnes always comes up short, barely .850 OPS for me, even in Huntington. Pop Lloyd's card does not perform well for me either. This is my pet peeve, but Pop was considered the greatest baseball player by Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner, and Ty Cobb hated his guts and all we get is a 7.5 mil card. I made my own Negro league cards and I had Pop at 11.0 mil.

Why play 200M? It's just a bunch of All Stars and Hall of Famers. For me, the fun is picking out some scrubs at 80M, or even 100m, and seeing what you get out of them. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

But it really is comparing apples and oranges when we talk about over-rated at these levels. For context, the discussion could be framed about over-rated at 80/100M and another discussion at 200M.

I have never played in higher than a 140M league. Even those weren't much fun (for me) until the addition of new players in ATG6 & ATG7, when the draft became less critical. I just can't see the point of a 200M league, though I might be wrong.

That said, I have had pretty good luck a couple of times with Edmonds in 140M leagues, where he is often the CF I get if I miss my actual top choice. He gives you great D, and I've gotten an OPS in the high .800s to mid .900s. Of course, it helps to be playing in a lefty power park, as I usually do--maybe that's the key? Here are my examples:

I also used him once with success in a 100M league, but I can't find that one.
