frickin' barry zito cost me the panda...although they all suck at this point, but he was the last decenrt starter left, and I didn't have any lh starters, despite marte entering our beloved diviison.

It is impossible to tell when these 'proxy runs' take place or how deep they will run, and with a 2 hour clock, I am resigned to trying to check in at least every 2 hours in case a proxy run has put me up to select. However, my job sometimes means I can't check in with Strat for a period of time sometimes over 4 hours, and my sleep schedule overlaps the timeframe where the clock is 'on.'

Terry works in a school system I read earlier here? That to me would make it understandable that he couldn't break away for Strat during the work day. For that matter, others of us with day jobs appreciate the window of time for a selection. Sometimes I set several proxies, sometimes when my need is more precise I just set a few. Often you guys are weasels and my proxied players are gone when my pick is up.

In any case, this draft has been literally FLYING BY compared to the last few bulletin board drafts I have been in, and we are not going to be able to start play for at lease another week anyway, so let's continue making our best efforts to proxy up and pick as soon as we can, but please have patience when necessary since all our lives have different commitments at different times. I appreciate the text and Facebook reminders I have received in this and other drafts from others in the league. Let's keep that up too... it helps move things along. We are doing great!

And I just got a text that I am up to pick... so I will pick, then it's back to work.

Thanks! :)

Terry's timing out earlier today was costly for somebody who needed a third baseman. I didn't expect both Alvarez and Sandoval to go before the draft got back to him.

As much as I would like to get this draft done, we've always given leeway to people who indicate on the board something like, "It's going to be a busy day for me today. I've loaded up some proxies, but if they all get taken, I might not be able to make a pick right away. I expect I will be available about X p.m."

I do think we should NOT skip Terry's pick again if he happens to time out again. Missing another pick could be too costly, and we do need 12 willing owners to make the league work.

I wish I could have afforded either of them... Sandoval in particular would have fit in nicely. Actually, TomSiebert weaseled me out of a proxied Lance Berkman, who could have added some sorely needed OBA and doubles to my speedy lineup in a 1B platoon with Goldschmidt. However, I think Goldschmidt is too expensive to use in a platoon... still pretty effective against righties for such an unbalanced guy, so no harm no foul.

My squad might fare ok at home, but in a high BPHR we are going to have a tough time........

Guys,

Totally absolutely buried at work and could not get online. Proxies got used up and I yes I needed a 3rd baseman, but that's how it goes- I'll take a few minutes now and get caught up. Great league -fun draft and I apologize for any hold up. Thanks

well, that did kind of change everything...if terry had taken either sandoval or alvarez, i would have taken the other instead of zito, and catom would be out. im living proof though that you have to sacrafice somewhere...I had nelson and chris johnson targeted earlier and filled some other need, and they were gone.same with salano when zim got him back in 17. I decided to go with pitching, or the last decent reliever, or last decent backup/platton with brantley and we move that much further down the garbage scale. certain injuries are going to be catastrophic to some of us, whose every day infielders are already barely mlb worthy.

did we ever decide whether to go back to 24 rounds and auto draft the final two players, or just keep it at 26?

I was just going to ask the same question. Since there's no answer, and we're in round 21, I would recommend autodrafting the last two rounds rather than doing the snake. Yeah, there will be a couple of AL players placed on rosters, but not a lot (and really, how good are those guys going to be, anyway?). Further, we'd likely move veeeeeery slowly doing the snake draft an extra two rounds with the clock off for a long weekend.

I set it up for 26 because I didn't see where it was clearly decided to go with the 24 rounder. Looking back though, it looks like there was a general confirmation of this between Al and Meat and no one raised an objection, so we will stop at 24 rounds and Autodraft the final two.
