SO dumb question, which ruth and mantle card to use???

PostFri May 24, 2013 6:53 pm

I have neeeever had the luck getting these two at the same time for a 200 mil league.

Surprisingly it is not as BP HR friendly as usualy, there are 3 sub par parks and 5 specialty parks (2 left, 3 right friendly). then some of the usual 18-20's. im in an 18 bp hr park but not sure on which years to use.

any help?

PS. i am having some fun with this team, thus the switch hitter obsession and this is pre-waivers

Well, Ruth's 1921 season was the best offensive season of all time, can also play 1b
The 1920 card for me has the best home run power, and can also play 1b.
The 1927 card still has plenty of power, and provides good corner OF defense......

The 1956 Mantle is offensively superior and, if can get away with it (good OF defense in the corners) I use it. I use the 1961 if I feel I can give up a little bit of offense for having a "1" in CF.

I find myself usually using the 1920 Ruth and the 1956 Mantle, many times on the same team.

Qualifier: I never play 200m leagues.

Use the two most expensive versions but this team is going to be sub .500. You don't have enough hitting to win at 200mil.

Definitely 1920 Ruth and 56 Mantle. But badjam is right you only have Jones, Larkin, Ruth, and Mantle that are 200 million caliber players with Alomar as a fringe guy. Who are the free agents out there?

I agree and disagree about not having enough O. I am not one of the few that seem to nail every 200 mil draft, but still seem to manage 80-90 win teams, nothing spectacular.

Oh, and the theme of collecting as many 10 mil plus players as possible also doesn't seem to work for me.... here is a team with 7 (musial, stearns, joss....wtf). it is early but not exactly killing it eh?

My question is bc in a 200 mil league, Ruth's 1920 year might be the best looking card and ops.....but the 1921 year is not far behind, better defense, and the most important to me and a 200 mil league, he will play every game, meaning potentially more production.

Any way, safe and fun Memorial weekend.

I agree I think you will struggle on O, in part due to the "obsession" with switch hitters. Consider going after both a RH&LH bat to platoon in one of the OF spots if you're going to settle for so many <9mil types.

What's up with the mastermosser12 posting in one subject and mastermosser13 in this? Plus I'm in a league with you as mastermosser10. You create multiple profiles?

Looks like Ruth and Mantle are off to a good start for you.
