New Team Help

PostMon Jun 03, 2013 9:30 am

New team starting tonight in US Cellular.....Having some challanges putting this team together. Trying to stick with (2) stud starters. But know it hurts my offense. My defense really worries me though...Any thoughts would be appreciated..

A few thoughts, hard to suggest without knowing your league's makeup and FA list
First, make sure you spend all your payroll
As for the line-up CF and SS are awfully weak offensively for that ballpark.
What is your rotation after the two studs? Don't neglect your pitching staff. I would get see if you improve that.
rid of Lester-too many BP Hrs. Harang and Garcia not ideal either. Would look at the cheap SP* left.
With Kershaw and Verlander you can cut back your bullpen. Would prefer to see a decent closer instead of a committee of average ones.

You've got some nice value guys on your squad, along with some over-priced guys.

Kershaw and Verlander kinda need to go. I can see 1 of them, but not both.
Headley as well.

In US Cell, you need to out slug your opponents. As it is right now, your team will hit but NOT outscore other teams.

The $ used with those 3 guys, can be better off spent on your hitting and then your pen.

I'm with the other guys, don't see that team performing as you wish. It's more of a pitchers park team stuck in the Cell.

I would start by trading (not dropping) Kershaw a cheaper * SP, someone like Felix at the high end or lower. That would keep you original wants, but give you a better offense. And I don't personally mind a really cheap 4th * SP in 80 mil leagues, but then you would need to have 4 * Sp's which you don't.

That 2B and CF is awful for the cell. you don't want "w" powered hitters. Again, don't know who is available in the FA list, but I wouldn't expect that team to outscore a ton of teams.

Look at the Houston Gamblers in your league, that was what you should have been aiming for tbh.

I'm not a big fan of super expensive starters at parks like the cell. There will at least 5-10 starts by those guys where they will be hammered (and removed by HAL) in the 1st couple of innings. This really reduces the value of 9+ million dollar starters in my opinion.

Headly might pay off there, but it's iffy. You need a better pen and better team defense there. Four guys with closer ratings isn't a good value either. Having a combined 11 closer ratings is really inefficient, you really only need about 6 split between two guys.

For comparison's sake, here is a US Cell team with the best record in the league, with Verlander as their top pitcher
