I'd love to help, but I think a lot of us are either short on pitchers, or we just have enough! I only JUST have enough, with making all 3 free agent picks to get to 11.
**QUESTIONS FOR COMISH** -
1. Paul - do we need to "draft" 11 pitchers, or can we draft 10 pitchers and auto draft an 11th from the bottom of the scrap heap, only to cut him and pick up are "protected" drafted free agent player as a "waiver pick"? In other words, do we really need to "draft" 11 pitchers, or can we draft 10 pitchers and 15 position players as part of our drafts on the boards? In a lot of ways, it makes sense to let us draft only 10 FA pitchers and 15 batters, if we choose to, including our 3 FA picks, since once the season is live, we can actually drop our last 3 FA picks if we choose, and substitute them anyway. [**Can we? I thought we could - ?**]. So why not let us "draft" 15 batters and 10 pitchers if we choose to? That would give us more freedom to make trades in the meantime, since we are not constrained to having 11 pitchers.
(It's a "given" that we must have 4 pure relievers, since that is a strat requirement. So we will still need to draft pure RPs as free agent picks in order to get to the 4 pure reliever requirement).
The problem with the pitchers is that it seems like there just isn't enough of them in this player pool for all 6 seasons - especially pure RPs. (By the way, that surprises me. It's not what I expected to be the case. Crappy pitchers, yes, but too few of them, no.) I don't get the impression that anyone is hoarding a lot of pitchers!
The main benefit of this ruling would be that we can use that ONE EXTRA FA PICK to help shore up positional deficits. For example, while I have all main positions covered, I have only 1 first baseman, and only 3 other players who can play 2b/ss. There aren't many players left in the player pool that can cover these positions. Now, admittedly, part of my problem is that I've painted myself into a corner by not saving more cash for my picks. I could still quite easily get my roster done with a few more cheap picks, but not at the right positions. I can already field a legal roster, but 2 of my 3 FA picks will be to take pure relievers. **It's that third free agent pick that could really help me to get a cheap depth player at 1b-2b-ss.**'
As an aside, I really do hope that all of the remaining cheap players don't get picked before I can get to them, because I really need to get some cheap players with my next 3 picks to get in under my budget. I can average $710,000 per player with my next 3 picks and still field a legal roster after my 3 FA picks. But if I can't get under that threshold per player, then I will have to make a trade in order to meet the salary cap requirements at $80 million.
2. Paul, I'm sure we've asked you several times, and you've answered several times, but please - one more time - if I trade a player (see my previous paragraph), does the player that I acquire in the trade count as one of my 22 6 season picks? I thought that the answer to this is "yes".
3. Do we need to field a team of 25 players? I thought that the answer to this is "yes". But worth rechecking. At 24 players my cost constraints get loosened up considerably.
Thanks Paul!!!
