Question

PostTue Jun 04, 2013 7:15 pm

Now that I have chosen my team I have a few questions. My opening day roster must have only players from my player lists is that correct? So if no one takes Atl LA etc their players cannot be drafted? For instance P. Niekro and Sutton must not be owned for the initial series.

After the first series any player can be picked up, is that correct?

I believe you can only select from free agents that have a 70s year carded for your team. If no one drafts LA, Sutton cannot be played at all during the season. That's how I understand it.

Do we have a backup plan if Death is not with us?

bigdingkent has it right. If a player does not have a carded year from the 70s for your team, they can never be on your roster. The one exception is that each team is allowed to trade for one player that isn't carded for their team.

Let's wait another day for Death to show up. Then let's look for an alternate.

While we wait...

1. Can we confirm an earlier specific statement that players who only have one team listed in the 70's on their 70's card (e.g. Siebert who has a 60's Cleveland card, but otherwise only 70's Red Sox) as well as players with only one team (e.g. Hobson) MUST be on the opening day roster (i.e. be a player for games 1-3)? So they could be replaced with a player with at least one 70's carded year for the Sox after the first series (so long as such replacements were on the wire and not snatched by another eligible team).
What I'm driving at is you MUST pay the 5% penalty to drop somebody who is exclusively yours (with the exception of one such player for both Balt and Cincy due to cap constraints)
2. Is there a plan to handle a situation whereby a team cannot fulfil opening day roster requirements and draft rules? For example, what happens if one team cannot get a second catcher or third RP only reliever and keep all required players and stay under the cap because another eligible team has taken their only cheap options. Not certain it will arise but might arise depending upon teams selected.
3. I'll put it out there that my great preference should Death take a holiday would be for a replacement owner to be found, but if one could not be found readily, I would take another franchise (the one I have in mind has only one possible player in common with my Red Sox - and I'd truly hope neither team would have to use him), and forego the 1 traded player rule as clearly their could be no collusion between teams that can't share players.

Strike that last one, just thought there could be concern that one team could be trying to throw games against the other if one was in the race and the other not. Need to avoid conflicts of interest and the appearance of conflicts!

The only players that are required to be on your roster for game 1 are the players listed on the first page of this thread. All other players that have a 70s carded year for your team are optional.

canauscot and LMBombers have it right. Except for the one cut allowed for Cincy and Balt, every team must open the season with all of the players listed on page 1. Then, if you want to cut them, there is a 5% penalty. The available free agents for each team are also shown on page 1 (there are a few 0.75 hitters that I haven't listed yet).

I don't think we'll have a problem with any team not having enough relievers or catchers, but we'll deal with that if it happens - I guess we'd allow a 0.75 replacement.
