Happy to finally be in the playoffs again. It's been waaaay too long. To post the best record (after three super tight games with Semper) is just icing on the cake. Given that we were much better at home than on the road, maybe that's important.

It will be a good series with Hawk I'm sure.

Draft order (for the first 8) for NLD 33

East
Stoney
Big M
Semper
DJ

Central - Jeep, Corky and AT tied. AT had the best record between them, followed by Corky and Jeep.
Jeep
Corky
AT
Keyzick

West TBD based on playoffs.
Hawk, GB, Big A, JTJ

Nowhere near as cut and dry. In fact the best pitching team had the worst record in the league and the 3rd best pitching team had the 2nd worst record in the league. ;)

I would be happy to have the same pitching staff in any other 80m league. Good value for money all around, and I think I got maximum value in the end from Chapman.

The trouble I had was I drafted a Progressive team, and waited too long to select the park. Big mistake.

I'm pretty sure my team would have won between 85 - 95 games at Progressive.

Good luck playoff teams, and a special congrats to Joe, who was long overdue!

Joe, I think you may have covered this in one of your analyses recently, but I did a quick review of the Sim Fielding pages for each team. I thought that there was an amazingly strong correlation between the overall W-L record with the % of outs achieved on X chart readings. The only team that didn't seem to fit the correlation - to my quick visual review - was BigMahon. And that might be explained by his comment that he had hoped to be in Progressive for a ballpark, but missed out on that (left handed power hitters on his team [including S hitters vs RHP], and lefty starting pitchers).

It still intrigues me about the game of baseball, that we are all naturally drawn to the statistical performances of hitting and pitching, but the fielding can have such a surprisingly strong influence on the W-L columns!

And then there is the luck! After I posted that, I went back to my own fielding stats page, and noticed that Rajai Davis successfully got outs 15 out of 18 times!!!

Aybar might also have over-performed for me defensively, at SS.

Cano is lights out, of course, having allowed only 9 runners to reach base - 5 errors and presumably 4 X Chart ## readings or shifts from holding runners that resulted in singles.

It was definitely fun having both Cano and Posey in the same lineup. Their doubles were amazing, especially Posey. Posey was great at keeping runners right where they were, allowing only 29 SB vs 19 CS. In another bizarre twist of luck, Gimenez, the back-up, allowed only 1 SB but had 5 CS! How did that happen?

Thanks Big M! It sure felt like it was overdue to me! :) As for your team, yeah, your park wasn’t ideal, but it was your road record that killed you. 23 games under! Why didn’t you take Yankee or at least a park like Busch?

I’m not so sure GB. We finished next to last in X% and you were next-to-last. At least the last time I took the stats. I don’t think there’s a “magic bullet” I think you can win with any type of team, but neglect some facet of the game too much at your own peril. The hard thing is what is “too much”? ;)

Yeah, that’s some luck, but it’s also a SSS. As for Aybar, yeah, probably should have had 3 more errors, but had exactly the right number of hits. Although, I suppose being “in” should have made for maybe one or two more hits.

As for Gimenez, well, he was helped by your staff which is almost all minus holds, but I’d have to say you got pretty lucky in a SSS.

Playoffs start tonight. Hoping to do well at home! :)

Wow, two incredibly tough games with Hawk. We had a HUGE edge in SPs (at least if you believe the salaries) in both games, but you wouldn't know it from the game that Iwakuma (1.61) against Lohse (6.70) both teams don't score until Hawk got 2 off of Lohse. His pen took over and we finally broke through with a bases loaded walk in the 7th and then 3 in the 8th. Our Pen held him off in the 9th.

In game 2 it was scoreless (Smyly 2.27 v Greinke 5.23) until the 9th. Caveat, Smyly only went 1.2 due to injury and he ended up with 5.2 from Davis and Jansen. He gets a run off of Greinke to start the 8th and threatens more, but Kontos escapes a corners and 0 out situation with no runs scoring. Two outs and no one on in the 9th, McDonald walks off of Choate's card and Willingham hits a 1-18 walk off HR! :schock: Wow.

Glad to get lucky in two in our place. Now we go to his for 3 and the pitching matchups aren't nearly as favorable.

Wandy v M Gonzalez
Kelly v E Ramirez

First game pitching is pretty close. Not so much in the second one. The good thing from my perspective is he used four of his RPs in both games while we used only Kontos in both.

Looks like the other series was a split.

Hey Guys,

Thinking ahead to NLD 33. We've never done a $60 mil league. Anyone interested in trying that next?

Also, might be useful to start indicating your interest for the next time and any time where your schedule won't allow. I know GB said he was coming back.

Man, we have been completely shackled by Hawk's pitching, but we're up three games to one. Go figure. His D makes his so-so staff much better, but, man, a .177 batting average? We are very lucky to be up. Of course, he's only hitting .219 so I guess it's the 2 extra HRs we've hit.

First game was 2-1 all on HRs. Young leads off game with HR for him, Fielder and Willingham hit solos for me.

The X-chart was our undoing in the next game. A boot by Kelly and a 1-3 single off of Danks in LF. It happens. Outside of Trumbo in RF, you're not going to get much off of Hawk on the X-chart.

On to Game 5 with Lohse against Griffin, Still in Wrigley, not that there's much difference between our parks.

We lost Asdrubal for one game. Mcdonald will fill in.

DD wins two on the road to also go up 3-1.
