How to build a Coors team?

PostMon Jun 10, 2013 5:55 pm

My first team, a Target Field team, made it all the way to the finals (though losing), but I think I'm gonna try a long-ball team out in the thin air. I know to maximize bphrs, but I'm wondering about tips....for example, how good an idea might it be/not be to get an expensive #1 pitcher who doesn't give up homers, as opposed to purely maximizing offense? I'm curious what kind of advice anyone might have.

don't spend too much on SP. with enough rolls off the hitters card, even stud SP will get shelled enough times and be removed after a few innings. I've typically gone cheaper SP and a deep pen, but there is always more than 1 way to skin a cat.

Maximize those BP Hr's but don't skimp on the OBP. 3 run HR are much better than solo shots :!:

I agree with Geekor. Pitching-wise, I usually spend roughly 10-12 mill on SP (I have done one as low as 6M in the Cell). I like the super reliever style.. I've used Avilan a lot in this set for that.. It's pretty easy to find cheap RP's and also effective L or R slanted ones.

I love having guys who walk and homer in hitting parks. Walks might not seem like much, but believe me, they lead to a lot of huge innings, and you probably know that from when you are on the opposing team!
I usually spend around 20 mill on pitching and 60+ on hitting. That way you can get a really stacked lineup.
In fields like Coors, I aim for .500 SLG and 5 ERA. That usually ensures success.

BTW: This is mostly for 80M. For 100+ mill, it makes more sense to go with a stacked rotation, as you might expect (although it's harder to get those expensive pitchers, of course)

dont forget defence. i want to pound the other team into submission but limit their at bats. i limit at bats by reducing errors and increasing my total chances to get outs.

So the Coors suggestions sound suspiciously like the PETCO suggestions...

For Coors or any home run park you want to make sure your pitchers do not have ballpark home runs on their cards. You don't necessarily need great pitching but you do not want pitchers who give up gopher balls.

I can't remember ever having played a Coors team, but I think I did a few years back. It was mentioned above but you obviously want to out slug your opponents while at the same time have a few hitters that do not rely solely on the ballpark HR so you can score some runs in your opponents pitchers' parks, if there are any... Some balance is good in any park.
