This is a new one on me, but maybe I just haven't followed the play-by-plays closely enough:

Back when I was playing the board game, the best hit and run result I can remember was a double. But if Bob Boone can power up for a homer in a pitchers park (this game was played in Robison Field) maybe this strategy is better than I give it credit for.

I suspect this was one of those rare play things that the computer game kicks in once in a while. Hit and run results in line drive to CF and CFer misplays it but does not receive an error. Ball rolls to fence and hitter circles bases.

I thought there was something about the H&R results where the result gets read off the pitcher's card instead of the H&R chart. I'd have to look it up on my CD ROM game though and I'm much more lazy than that.

Well gotta appreciate that honesty.

It does make some sense that to some extent the result should be based on the pitcher.
