I may be mis-understanding the transaction, but, I don't think there is any roster issue. Valdes and Altuve are an even swap. The draft pick traded isn't a FA pick..

Anyone a Teixeira fan? I am willing to swap him for a similarly priced SP. Looking for a SP for this year.

I read them as separate questions. Yes, the trade is player for player plus pick.

On the roster question, Alonso can not be promoted right now. After Jon gets to 40, he could make a 2-for-1 swap and promote Alonso then, if he still wants to at that point.
