New Theme League, "Battle of the Decades"

Anyone interested.

Im having a lot of fun watching an 80's team i put together try and win in a regular league:

I'd like to do, 80m, no DH, and you can pick any ballpark you want. 12 teams, and which team you get will be picked at random.

1. 1900-1909
2. 1910- 1919
3. 1920-1929
4. 1930-1939
5. 1940-1949
6. 1950-1959
7. 1960-1969
8. 1970-1979
9. 1980-1989
10. 1990-1999
11. NeL
12. pre-1900 and post 1999 (think this is going to be the short straw, as fielding a balanced pitching staff is going to be hard with this one).

I've played in a similar league and you will need to allow a tad of adjustment (the one I remember most is that the NEL do not have adequate relief staff).

I'd suggest you try to make a mock team for every league yourself just so you can see the issues before you start.
(Don't sign me up yet)

Played in a league like that a while ago and there were some issues where the decades or eras had tto be broken up, i.e. two NEL teams and 90's to the present

I'm interested, also, but I concur that some adjustments are necessary having played in such a league. If memory serves, however, that was at a higher cap, so the 80 mil level would mitigate some of the disparities.

I would be interested in a league like this. JohnnyBlazers league did show the Neg league teams a little out matched. Maybe take pre 1900 and post 2000 and do something with the Neg leagues.

Another idea could be to take different years like 1909, 1919, 1929... 1999 for a team. Make the last number of the year be a team. It would make drafting a little competitive. There would need to be two Neg leagues teams also with some sort of compensation. I haven't really looked to see if this would work, but its a thought.

There are two primary problems with making a team exclusively of Negro Leaguers. First, the NeL set has no pure relievers, and SOM won't let you create a team without at least 3 pure relievers. Secondly, from a practical standpoint, the bench would be overpriced-- virtually all of the NeL cards are over $1M, and there are only a few that are even under $2M. At $80M, that will tie up a lot of money unnecessarily.

It's impossible to put together a NeL team for $80 Mil, even if you give them three 50-cent RP-onlys. Try it: Take the 22 heapest players on the roster and add the three 50-centers, and you're still over 80. There are different problems with pre-1900's and post[-2000s. I'd suggest setting specific rosters for each decade, and adding in NeLers to bolster weak teams. It's a lot of work, to be sure, but it has been done in the past, and you'll end up with a league most of us would join.

What if the NeL team was also opened up to any African American player. The bullpen is still thin (or pricey) -

for RP only, there is Lee Smith, Arthur Rhodes, Mike Jackson, Reggie Harris, Grant Jackson, Al Holland - -not sure if this list is entirely conclusive, i may have missed some.

This would help expand the player pool.

Or you could break some of the decades down into leagues...ie 80's AL and '80's NL, and then eliminate NEL and pre1900 and post 1999 teams altogether...
